Monarch Butterfly

Dear Friends,

Do so hope everyone survived last week.  We had a quiet day on the farm catching up on things (still am) and I can see daylight already fading so will be brief.

I think the ingredients for this week are terrific:

Our lettuce production slowed down with the shorter days so for this week, there is the salad mix, mache, sprouts and spinach for fresh salads.

If you are new to mache, it's a very popular European green for fresh salads.  The classic way is to cook beet, julienne them, sprinkle on mache with crumbed hard boiled eggs and a light vinegarette dressing.  The leaves are mild and tender.

To those of you that wrote or called after reading the dismal report on the latest numbers of the Monarch Butterfly, yes, I follow it.  We continue to seed and do cuttings of the milkweed plant, essential for the life cycle of the butterfly.  Although their numbers and been down since last year, we still have a few throughout the gardens and will be ready for them next year as a sanctuary and place of hope.

All of your Green Store orders are much appreciated and if there are items you'd like us to carry, please drop me a note.

Feel free to contact me if you need help or suggestions--and that includes your likes and dislikes..

I read all the emails.
