Dear Friends,
One of the advantages of fall are the leaves. Every new day brings different colors and amounts. To me, they're treasures of compost; food for the soil already teeming with subterranean life forms. But the real advantage, is when I'm blissfully doing a solitary chore in the garden, no one can come up behind me shattering the moment with their need, as I can hear the crunch of the leaves first from my friends, the leaves.
Although it's a couple of weeks away, need to give everyone a head's up for Thanksgiving. Wednesday deliveries will remain the same and Thursday deliveries will arrive on Tuesday the 26th.
As we continue into our cooler months, food writers are publishing articles and suggestions for the best winter foods to ward off illnesses...the very ones we've been sending the last few weeks: leeks, beets, green leafy vegetable (beet greens, kale, collards, spinach, Swiss chard, French sorrel), pomegranates, persimmons, guavas and of course, all the citrus.
I'm going to make a Roasted Butternut Squash Soup tonight for dinner served with sauteed beet green (yum) and a big salad with odds and ends from the gardens. Simple, delicious, nutritious and quick. Here is a link for more Butternut squash recipes:

Savoy cabbage is one of my favorite vegetables not only to eat but to grow. They are so beautiful with their crinkling leaves that collect dew drops early in the mornings. I'm going to do a simple fresh salad with chopped dates ( I know you still have some), apples and a home-made mayo dressing
