This week's delivery items for all sizes

Dear Friends,

We're still happy little clamettes around here after last weeks rain.  We picked up where we left off after the heat last week pulling weeds (by their damp deep roots), cleaning fences from summer crops, planting sweet peas and yummy snap peas, seeding early spring flowers, re-locating narcissus bulbs and generally enjoying the work weather.  Even had a fire in the fireplace to celebrate the blessed water that fell from the sky.  Years ago I'd be excited about a sale at Sak's for Ferragomo's.   These days it's all about showers and baby chickens!

So the big news is the hatching of 4 baby Frizzle chicks.  Too cute.  About half the size of normal chicks, they're tucked under their little mama, poking their heads out if there's a noise or to peck at their baby food.  We'll be having a class on chickens October 26th.  There's so much interest from people wanting to have backyard chickens and I think this is one of the best breeds for home.  Besides their good points, they're hilariously entertaining with their backwards feathers and antics.

You'll have a bunch of brown things that might stump you.  No, it's not anything to cook with, it's Artemesia, commonly known as Sweet Annie, and is just to give you another whiff of the farm.  It's used in potpourri and winter wreaths.  Here's a link for wreath making:  Sweet Annie

Butternut squash is  delicious and nutritious for a fall meal.  It's easier to cut if you peel it first.  Here are recipes you might enjoy:  Butternut squash
