Dear Friends,
We've all had moments in our lives when something shockingly unexpected causes us to gasp, hold and expel our breath. I had one of these a few days ago and I hope the speed, the fright and the beauty will stay with me for a long time. I was in one of the greenhouses checking on things and facing the open door. Faster than I could think about it a sparrow frantically flew in right over my head. Split seconds behind that came a small hawk, hell bent as they say, for his snack. Before I even had time to raise my arms to cover my face, that hawk somehow assessed the situation, banked a u-turn and out the door. I felt the rush of air his wings made and can still see in my mind's eye the soft white under feathers as it made it's turn. Hope the memory stays with me a long time.
Another animal story: We were hosts Saturday to about 25 of Queen Elizabeth's favorite doggies (and ours): Invasion of the Corgi's for the San Diego Corgi Meet-up. It was so fun watching them freely romp and play (all chckens, ducks and goats stayed in their pens) with each other. Many a pup went home happy, tired and dirty!
