The foliage has been losing its freshness through the month of August, and here and there a yellow leaf shows itself like the first gray hair amidst the locks of a beauty who has seen one season too many. ~Oliver Wendell Holmes

Dear Friends,

I love the fog.  It rolls over us from the coast in the mornings and I can hear the drip drip from the roof top dropping in dollops on the ground.  That's about as close to rain as we get, usually not until about November.  I've read about the method of netting to have the moisture drip down into containers in other countries.  Not very practical for us as we need thousands of gallons a day to produce our products but something to think about as SD City Council will be having a vote coming up on raising water prices again next year by 7+% and another the year after.  Gads..good thing I have a "I'll think about it tomorrow" attitude.  And poor Colorado..they wish some of their deluge would come our way.

We had a lovely guest last week, Jessica Johnson.  She likes to find the hidden treasure spots of San Diego and featured us for her latest.  Scroll down for her photographs.  I think she really captured the feel of the place and we're working on having her teach art classes here:Hidden San Diego

I think this week's ingredients will please most of you.  Autumn colors for flowers still with us and we're harvesting our winter squashes while planting cabbage, cauliflower, peas, carrots, kohlrabi and such.

Here is a delicious recipe for arugula and potatoes..use your lime for the lemon:  Arugula and Yukon Gold Salad recipe

If you'd like a warm dish, try this Gratin Dish.  It's a little rich with the cream but heck, it's only once in a while or you can try milk or almond milk instead.  We carry the 'good' bacon on the GreenStore. I like to have it on hand just for a few sprinkles now and then.

I love this recipe for  Spinach Salad and will be using my grapes instead of cranberries and not so much sugar.  We use Xyla, a natual sugar substitute and it's available on the Green Store as well.

Happy healthy eating.

All of your GreenStore orders are much appreciated and if there are items you'd like us to carry, please drop me a note.

Feel free to contact me if you need help or suggestions--and that includes your likes and dislikes..

I read all the emails.
