Dear Friends,

I receive phone calls and messages from all over the world and do my best to respond to all.  Some are hilarious and some are frankly quite sad.  This morning I picked up a call to a rather pushy/rude caller that demanded to know why organics were more expensive than 'conventional' grocery store prices (her niece has been diagnosed with cancer).  I sighed to myself.  Where do I begin?  I did my best with her and made some inroads I think.  What I didn't tell her, and feel I can tell you all, is that with our recent rains and the longer days, the gardens have exploded in green growth and color.  The twist is, not all green is good.  The whole place is lush with crops and WEEDS.  Now, a commercial grower could buy a $25 bag of herbicide and cover the whole farm (including killing beneficial insects).  Instead, we hired 3 extra people plus our crew of 3 and Kendall and I.  That translates to $2, 250 in pay just to pull weeds and they are still sprouting!  Just a little insight into 'behind the scenes' of the farm.

I sent you edible flowers separately this week.  You can use them fresh in you dishes, freeze into ice cubes or dry for later use.  They're just too pretty not to enjoy.

I'm still promoting our wonderful California Olive Oil of Paicines..Paicines Olive Oil..here's an article to perhaps encourage you to try it: Fewer Calories with Olive Oil?

And since our beets are developing for the next few weeks, here's an article on why you should embrace them:  Unbeatable Beets

Oh..and the lettuce all decided to mature at the same time.  That's why I've sent two heads the last two weeks (at a discount).  We'll be back to one next week.  Here are many good suggestions for Cooking with Lettuce

We're offering a 5% credit back to your account if you order $100 worth of goods from the Green Store.  It's easy to add items from the Green Store.. we appreciate all orders.
