"A farm is a manipulative creature. There is no such thing as finished. Work comes in a stream and has no end. There are only the things that must be done now and things that can be done later. The threat the farm has got on you, the one that keeps you running from can until can't, is this: do it now, or some living thing will wilt or suffer or die. It's blackmail, really. - Kristin Kimball "The Dirty Life: on Farming, Food and Love"

Dear Friends,
The holiday season brings with the times heightened anxiety for the farm. We are deadlocked into a daily routine of care for our animals, plants and people. There is no respite for the hungry tummies, living areas that must be cleaned, water and fertilizer for crops and plants or excuses for not returning phone calls or emails from clients and the public. And so the first of 'holidays', Thanksgiving approaches...the last Thursday of the month.
For us that means double time harvesting on Monday (squeezing everything into one day instead of two), packing and delivering on Tuesday and Wednesday, staff gets Thursday and Friday off with pay and Kendall and I cover the work for all. 25 years I have been doing this without a real family 'holiday' as in the 'before' life. It just goes with the territory and all I ask from shareholders is to please do not ask to 'skip' that (or more) weeks while you are on holiday. We have 2 lovely and deserving military families that would be more than happy to receive your regular delivery (as in shareholder agreement). In spite of my best efforts to go over this again with a client this morning, she demanded to immediately cancel their account and have all funds on deposit reimbursed.
Christmas and New Year's is more than I can think about right now but will address that as the time gets closer.
Here's some suggestions for items from our Green Store
1. Organic Carmel Dip for coating apples
2. Just delivered freshly roasted delicious organic, trade fair and shade grown locally roasted whole coffee beans
3. Mary's Air Chilled (meaning not washed in vats of disgusting water) Whole chickens. I can stretch a whole chicken almost through the week for various recipes.
All proceeds from the Green Store go directly to the animal care and maintenance of the farm.
Happy cooking and feel free to contact me if you need help or suggestions.
I read all the emails.
