Is farming a craft or is it a business?  Is it a way of life or a mode of money making;  is quantity a superior aim to quality, production to fertility and are the things of the spirit totally detached from purely material factors?  - J.F. Massingham

Dear Friends,

Here we go again with the hot weather.  Most of our summer crops are coming to an end and we're planting our carrots, broccoli, cabbage, snap peas, to name a few..but they're just sitting there in the ground, pouting, waiting for 'their' weather to kick in.  Fall is tricky.  You just never know what it brings..as long as it's not fires and Santa Ana's!

Ready for a reminder?An apple a day

Received only one nice note about a less than perfect Sugarbaby watermelon.  Some of you will receive this week again (juicing bags, special orders) and might have enough for next week too.  Again, it's an art, not a science so let us know if yours isn't up to snuff.

The hard or 'winter' squashes you're receiving this week may be one of several varieties:  Acorn, butternut or spaghetti.  They will last for several weeks on your counter and will wait for cooler weather although they do quite well in a slow cooker (crock pot) if you don't want to heat up the kitchen.

We have a Girl Scout troop coming this afternoon and there are still lots of Monarch butterflies around for them to see as well as everything

If any one needs cooking tips, please remember we now have Julie on board (we're trading deliveries for cooking and recipe support) and she'll be happy to help you.  Her blog is posted on our website or you may reach her and view her recipes here: http://nourishcommunity.com/blog/
