A Prayer of Thanksgiving
by Ann Weems
O Lord, you flower the gardens for us
and make green the wastelands.
The mountains burst forth with streams of water
and the fields are filled with your bounty.
Thank you, God, for all good gifts,
and make our hearts your home
that we might serve you all of our days
and live in the hope of your peace.
Amen.

Being Reformed: Faith Seeking Understanding The two newest six session studies:
The Prophets Still Speak by Patricia K. Tull
Old Testament Prophets were concerned with many of the same issues as Christians today: issues of righteousness, obedience, social justice, and visions of hope for the future. This study explores how what the prophets proclaimed to the people of their time still has urgency and importance for our time as well.
Reading the Bible for Understanding by James E. Davison This study introduces important means to consider when interpreting different parts of the Bible: narratives, poetry and wisdom, letters. It also reviews what Reformed and Presbyterian Christians believe about the nature of the Bible, and texts and translations that are available to us.

Attention Worship Planners: To Carol or to Hymn? ... That is the question with which many worship planners wrestle at Advent.
What will your congregation sing this Advent? This season you can lead your congregation in singing newly composed lectionary-based hymn lyrics set to familiar Christmas carol tunes. The lyrics are written by renowned hymn-writer Carolyn Winfrey Gillette. For example:- On the 1st Sunday: "The days are Coming, Said the Lord"
- to the tune of "It Came Upon the Midnight Clear"
- On the 2nd Sunday: "Behold, Said God, I'm Sending One"
- to the tune of "While Shepherd Watched their Flocks by Night"
- On the 3rd Sunday: "Sing Out, All God's People"
- to the tune of "Adeste Fideles"
You can purchase and download a print master with full musical manuscript (like appears in a hymnal) in two sizes (regular and large print) for just $9.95 per Sunday. Or, purchase the complete set -- including Christmas (10 hymns in all*) -- for just $35.00.
After you download the master you can print as many copies as needed for your worship services. Each week's purchase includes a second bonus hymn-carol from a previous year that also fits the Year C Scripture texts for that day. Download the hymn-carols that will have your congregation engaging the Advent message in the Christmas spirit all season long! |
Mediation Skills Training Institute for Church Leaders This training opportunity is to be held March 11 - 15, 2013 in Charlotte, North Carolina. Conflict is normal and inevitable - whether in the home, school, community, church or workplace. Leaders in all walks of life often have a responsibility to help others work through their conflicts. The Mediation Skills Training Institute presented by the Lombard Mennonite Peace Center (LMPC) is designed to equip church leaders with the skills necessary to deal effectively with interpersonal, congregational, and other forms of group conflict. The five-day institute also includes a component on congregational mediation and consultation, placed within the context of family systems theory. Although focused primarily on the church setting, the skills learned are directly transferable to other settings. Thus, managers in business, attorneys, experienced mediators, and others in leadership will be enriched by the training as well. Click here to download the registration brochure.
