Matthew Smith and Indelible Grace in Concert Reformed Hymns with New Arrangements
Join us tomorrow night, October 25th at 7pm in the Johns Island sanctuary for an acoustic concert of Reformed hymns and songs with Matthew Smith and Indelible Grace. We are encouraging others in the community to attend the concert, so arrive early if you want to get a good seat. A love offering will be taken to cover the cost for the concert.
Matthew Smith is a Nashville-based singer-songwriter who writes brand new music to centuries-old hymn texts. He is a founding member of the Indelible Grace community, whose work has drawn acclaim across denominational lines and is used in churches around the world. Born out of a college ministry, the re-imagined hymns have found wide acceptance both among college students and the church at large, joining people who desire to honor tradition with those who want a modern musical approach. His latest album, Watch The Rising Day, explores the tension of living in a broken world while awaiting Christ's return and the restoration of all things.

How are we as pastors to participate in that change while leading? What does not change and why? God has called you to ministry: where is it that you have time, space and opportunity to retool, reflect, and dialogue with both colleagues and professors in subject areas fundamental to mission, spiritual formation, preaching, and pastoral care? A Different Kind of Christmas:
Living and Giving Like Jesus by Mike Slaughter
This five session all-church program helps congregations cast a vision of living and giving like Jesus, beginning with the Christmas season and continuing through the year. Participants of all ages (elementary children, youth, and adults) will discover the broad meaning of Jesus' birth and experience a Christmas season with more peace and joy. The resource pieces in this study consists of a Children's Leader Guide, Youth Guide, Adult Guide, DVD (for youth and adult studies), devotional book, and book entitled Christmas is Not Your Birthday.
Preaching God's Transforming Justice:
A Lectionary Commentary, Year C edited by Dale Andrews, Dawn Ottoni-Wilhelm, and Ronald J. Allen
This commentary helps the preacher identify and reflect on the social implications of the biblical readings in the Revised Common Lectionary. In addition to providing commentary for all lectionary days, this series adds essays for twenty-two Holy Days of Justice, including World AIDS Day, Martin Luther King, Jr. Day, Earth Day, and Children's Sabbath. These days are intended to enlarge the church's awareness of God's call for justice and of the many ways that call comes to the church and world today.
