Office of the President

April 30, 2013

Dear Central High School Stakeholders,

The school budgets for the 2013 - 2014 school year were released to school administrators last week. Our budget for the upcoming year has been reduced dramatically. The new budget only affords schools to pay for a principal and teachers. No assistant principals, no support staff, no aides, no secretaries, no counselors, no books, no paper, etc. We are in an emergency situation. I am asking all members of the Central High School community to contact their local politicians to request adequate funding for public schools.

It is urgent that we mobilize and raise awareness that the proposed budgets are not adequate to open schools in September.

Here are some other ways you can help:
  1. Call or email your member of City Council, Council President Darrell Clarke, and all Council Members at Large. The message is clear: The current budget - no assistant principals, no secretaries, no counselors, no librarians, no aides - is not acceptable, and we cannot operate a school with the current budget. Please come up with a plan to help fund our schools and support the $60-million dollars Dr. Hite is requesting.
  2. Parents can also join an existing state campaign for funding by signing this online petition. It takes one minute, and can be an effective method to show support.
  3. Parents should also speak with their local state legislators. To find who that is go here
  4. A rally in Harrisburg is likely going to be on the calendar in the coming weeks. More details on a state action will be coming soon.
Thank you in advance for your support.

Sincerely,

Timothy J. McKenna
President
