Due to these shared beliefs in the unlimited potential of young people, State Farm partners with JA to provide better opportunities to students.

Recently, State Farm awarded a $20,000 grant to JA-Rocky Mountain to support significant growth in reaching new students in Northern Colorado and Wyoming. Spring is a time for new beginnings, which is certainly true for the 2016 graduates who are about to step into the "real world." If you could give advice to these young people who are about to embark on the next chapter of their lives, what would it be?

I've thought about this question a lot over the years. First, when my own sons were graduating from high school and then again when I was given the honor of delivering the commencement address to the University of Denver's 2014 MBA graduating class. And even though taking a test is the last thing a student with a newly printed diploma wants to do, I challenged them - and now you - to take this quick quiz. Read more
JA Alumni Share Their Advice for High School Graduates
They've received their high school diplomas and are traveling down their individual paths to higher education, career success and future happiness. So, what nuggets of knowledge and words of wisdom do JA Inspiration Scholarship students have for graduating seniors? Here's a sampling of their advice.

"It's up to you to allow yourself the freedom you deserve to explore your options, understanding that you will have questions, and it's okay to ask them even if it seems like everyone else knows the answer. The big secret is that in reality, no one knows what they're doing, despite how they may come off. So have fun, take risks, and be unafraid."
-Jaimie Zhu, Fairview High School Class of 2014

"No matter where you end up, it is up to you to keep the momentum going. There are incredible opportunities at every school for those with the drive to seek them out. It is one thing to get into and attend college, it is quite another to make connections and get involved! College is such an enriching experience, but it can be easy to become passive and fall into a comfortable routine. From day one sign up for everything and anything; get active in your new community!"
-Anna Krauss, George Washington High School Class of 2013

"My advice for high school graduates is to seek out and do what is hard - going outside your comfort zone is the key to finding success."
-Josh Ferge, Englewood High School Class of 2012

Comcast and JA Help Students Understand Global Business

Globalization often is a vital component of  today's business landsape, and Junior Achievement-Rocky Mountain (JA), is proud to partner with Comcast to introduce JA Going Global presented by Comcast, a unique new curriculum for middle and high school students.

Expanding into international markets is anything but easy and requires extensive analysis and planning. JA Going Global presented by Comcast helps students explore considerations such as demographics, geography, economy, competition, infrastructure, cost of living, lifestyle and regulations.

"Comcast is thrilled to partner with Junior Achievement to provide a real-world experience for students that will immerse them in relevant, hands-on learning opportunities as they work to take a new product - X1, Comcast's new entertainment operating system - into new markets," said Matt McConnell, Comcast senior vice president. "With the help of talented JA volunteers, we look forward to helping young people understand the many facets of our global economy and the challenging choices businesses make on their paths to sustained international growth." Sarah Saltzman's Commitment to JA Stands the Test of Time
Sarah Saltzman
Sarah Saltzman
During her ten years of volunteer service to JA-Rocky Mountain, Sarah Saltzman, Payroll Administrator for SM Energy, has taught nearly every grade level from kindergarten through 12th grade. She has taught the traditional JA program as well as JA in a Day, and has served as a valued volunteer for JA Finance Park and JA Business Week. Needless to say, Sarah is a "JA Superstar." So, where did Sarah's passion for financial education come from?

"I wasn't raised in a financially stable household and I wasn't taught about personal finances from my parents, so I had to learn the hard way," said Sarah. "I really like that JA teaches students how to manage money before they are faced with tough choices. I also love that JA shows students that there are endless opportunities for them if they focus and work hard."

Sarah is all about helping students increase their financial understanding, harness their potential, and pursue their dreams, and she has remained committed to teaching JA, despite changes in her own life.

"She is personally passionate about JA," said Kristi Shaffer, JA executive vice president. No matter where she works, Sarah remains committed to inspiring young people. She's had a few different employers during her service to JA, yet she continues to make the time to serve students and to share her passion for financial literacy. Read more
Organizations honored by JA with U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award
The U.S. President's Volunteer Service Award honors organizations that provided JA with significant volunteer resources during the 2014/15 school year. The recipients were recognized at the evening awards ceremony as part of the JA Volunteer Summit presented by the American Express Foundation on March 8 in New York City.

President George W. Bush established the President's Council on Service and Civic Participation (the Council) in 2003 to recognize the valuable contributions volunteers make in communities and to encourage more people to serve. The Council created the President's Volunteer Service Award program as a way to thank and honor Americans who, by their demonstrated commitment and example, inspire others to engage in volunteer service.

In 2006, Junior Achievement became an official certifying organization for this award, which recognizes corporations with a U.S. presence that provide volunteers to teach JA programs anywhere in the world. The following award recipients are critical to helping JA-Rocky Mountain inspire and prepare Colorado's young people for success.
