April 2013
Greetings!

Michelle Coleman Bwindi baby
Another Earth Day is upon us and we are reflecting on how grateful we are to have the opportunity to send people on African safaris to see some of the most beautiful and biologically diverse places on the planet. Our hope is that in addition to what people do every day to preserve and conserve, that by visiting these special places, they are further inspired to go the extra mile when it comes to caring for the earth and its inhabitants.

We do all that we can to 'green' our day to day business practices, including reducing our paper use within the office by 90%, recycling, commuting by bicycle, and working with lodges and camps within Africa that have a smaller ecological footprint. Our partners in Africa do everything from running their camps on solar power, growing vegetables onsite locally, recycling wastewater, and wildlife and community giveback programs. The guests that we send their way get to see these programs in action and it fuels a circle of positivity.

We want to preserve all that is precious; land, wildlife, resources and people. We know that our business practices have a positive impact on the economies in Africa and a lighter impact on the ecology of Africa.

We continue to commit to do all that we can to bring awareness and resources to issues faced in these wild areas, and to bring tourists there to increase the will to preserve them.

Stella lone cheetah TZ 2013 Stella spent some time in Tanzania last month exploring the Serengeti. She has written a series of entries for our Safari Journal Blog and we're enjoying them immensely. Her enthusiasm for the area and for Africa itself it contagious - we all wanted to hop on a plane after reading them! For even more inspiration, check out some of her photos on our Facebook page!

If you like what you read from Stella, why not experience it yourself? We have lots of specials on offer right now including free nights at some of our favorite camps, free activities at certain properties and spectacular discounts on nightly rates at a few select camps (including Sayari, one of the award-winning camps that Stella visited). If you want a really varied itinerary, you might add a Kilimanjaro trek on to your trip, and we can offer savings on that as well!

Although lions are opportunistic hunters and will eat almost any animal that they can catch, their favorite prey in Zambia's South Luangwa National Park is the African buffalo. You'd be hard pressed to see a more physical and demanding kill. A fully grown bull buffalo can weigh over 1,600 lbs and will feed the whole pride.
