Reflection:
Global Community
"Many times, we easily become oblivious of the needs of others and only think of our responsibility to our immediate families instead of extending this responsibility to a wider global community."
-Sr. Teresa Dagdag, MM
What are small ways that you can stay connected to the world beyond your borders while still addressing the needs of your family and friends?

Greetings!
One of the things that astounds many local Catholics is the depth of commitment within the Church, through Maryknoll and countless others, to walking on the journey with those most in need, standing with them as brothers and sisters. In speaking to groups ranging from high school and college students, to adult parishioners, I have sensed a thirst for a lived expression of God's love on this level, and a clear relief to see it happening.
Of course, we are all invited by God to join in this journey. When I was growing up, the promise of new life in Christ seemed distant and abstract - something that happens when you die. Now, as I prepare to celebrate my third Easter since joining the Maryknoll family, the reality of that new life nearly overwhelms me. Everyday is an opportunity to meet Christ in my neighbor, to share a meal or simply a smile with Him.
Mission is more than God's command; it is God's gift to us, as well. Our commitment at Maryknoll is not only to strive to express and experience the love of God, but also to help you receive that gift. As always, we are here as a resource and a companion for your own mission journey.

From 1920-1953, the Maryknoll Sisters and Maryknoll Fathers and Brothers staffed this parish serving members of Seattle's Japanese- and Filipino-American communities. During the Japanese Internment, Maryknollers opted to accompany their parishioners to the camps. Join us for this celebration of mission right here in our own community! (Read more...)
