Greetings!
Happy Saints Day! At our From Maintenance to Mission parish workshop last Saturday, a woman remarked, "It's harder to be a sinner than a saint." She was responding to a discussion we were having that we are created in the image and likeness of God, who is love, so carrying on God's mission of love should be as natural as breathing. We often make life harder than it needs to be.
Gifts of the Spirit: When we first moved to San Lorenzo we shared the parish convent with the Presentation Sisters and were very sad when they left. Their leaving created an opportunity to use the bedrooms for retreats and training programs. Although I was hesitant at first at the thought of taking on that new venture, after the past month, I can see what a wonderful gift it has turned out to be.
Over the course of three weekends we hosted retreats for the student leaders at Cal State East Bay (photo left) and the Maryknoll Sisters as well as a Mission Education Training Session. Although the washing machine and dishwasher got quite the workout, it was truly amazing to see the diversity of ways in which God's mission is taking root and bearing fruit.
Prayers: Please keep our Mission Promoters, Kris East and Leo Yoque, in your prayers as they head down to our Maryknoll Center in Bolivia for an immersion trip later this month. If you'd like to take an immersion trip next year to Guatemala or Bolivia, please click here.
We hope to see you soon,
Matt

Taize Candle Lit Prayer Gathering
Second Wednesday of the Month
at 7 pm
Taize is a meditative common prayer using song, chants, scripture, reflection and periods of contemplative silence, a prayer that does not end, but continues in the silence of the heart. Within this sacred space one is drawn into a deeper awareness of God's presence; it is a prayerful opportunity for self-reflection.
Contemplative prayer is seen as a critical path in mission. It is through prayer that we are connected with God and it is in the silence of our hearts that God communicates and shares with us God's mission of love for the world.
Taize will be held the second Wednesday of every month in the Chapel at the Maryknoll Center at 16642 Ashland Avenue, San Lorenzo.
The hour long service will start at 7:00 p.m. with Ruth Picha. Ruth is a Spiritual Director, who trained at Mercy Center in Burlingame.
