A Message From David Soucy

I hope you enjoyed a wonderful Fourth of July holiday and are enjoying this very hot summer. As you may already know, June 1st marked the beginning of hurricane season, and we already had a minor scare recently with Hurricane Arthur. To better prepare you for these storms, I included some helpful safety tips that cover all angles in case of emergency.

Additionally, I highly suggest that you talk to your agent to make sure your current policy covers any and all losses that hurricanes can cause. Call Soucy Insurance at 762.2218 to learn more and discuss your options today.

Thank you,

David Soucy

Getting Ready to Weather The Storm

Hurricanes hold the unpredictable potential to cause thousands of dollars of damage to your home. Currently, most homeowner's insurance policies include costs of hurricane destruction, but it never hurts to be too prepared.  Therefore Soucy Insurance wants to offer you these helpful tips to keep you and your family safe:

Before the storm:

  • Know all evacuation routes if you live close to the coast.
  • Make sure your home meets building codes for withstanding hurricanes, and they have storm shutters.
  • Have proper tools, supplies, and a first aid kit.
  • Have plenty of batteries and flashlights.
  • Always have plenty of non-perishable foods on-hand.

When a watch/warning is issued:

  • Leave low lying areas.
  • Protect windows with plywood boards, or storm shutters.
  • Secure outside objects.
  • Make sure you have plenty of fuel and water.
  • Have several days supply of food and water for each family member.
  • If called to evacuate, do so immediately.

During the storm:

  • Stay in a secure room.
  • Stay away from windows.
  • Monitor weather and civil service bulletins on either regular or NOAA radio.
  • Have supplies on-hand.

After the storm:

  • Make sure that all is clear outside, and that the storm has completely passed before going out.
  • Report downed power lines, and stay away from them.
  • Use stored water and food.

Protecting what matters most to you is our top priority. To review your current policy and ensure your home is covered for all damages caused by a hurricane, please call our offices at 762.2218.
