Dear Friend of Angels:
I hope you all are having a wonderful summer! I wanted to take a moment to share some important guiding values we believe in and live by at Angels.
Inclusivity and Diversity
"No one is born hating another person because of the color of his skin, or his background, or his religion."
- Nelson Mandela
We live by the values of inclusivity and diversity. The children in our care are a mirror image of our society. Our foster parents come from all experiences and lifestyles: single, same-sex, married, stay-at-home, work-at-home, retired, working professionals, grandparents, with their own children and without. What makes our foster families truly special is their willing commitment to the stable care of a child or sibling set until otherwise decided by the county or juvenile court. This commitment to stability is made knowing little to nothing about the child/children or how long they will be in their care. Our foster parents are best described as those who have a love of children, a love of family, a sense of humor, a sense of self and who are compassionate, responsible, dependable, empathetic, committed, positive, humble, giving, tactful, patient, flexible, punctual, organized, diplomatic and collaborative.
Help Angels Find More Foster Parents
If this sounds like you or someone you know, please introduce them to Angels so that we can help more children who have been abused and neglected. Please share our story and need for foster families with your family, friends and colleagues.
How Angels Improves the Care of Foster Children
"Alone we can do so little; together we can do so much." - Helen Keller
Collaboration and teamwork are vital to our success at Angels and, more importantly, to successfully care for a foster child. Our singular focus is to provide the best support and services to the foster children in our care and the families who care for them. However, we never forget that we are just one part of an entire team of agencies and people working in the best interest of the foster child. This year, we have spent much energy and effort introducing Angels to a variety organizations and people. Some of these we already knew and many others we had never met. Our common theme was how can we better work together to benefit the children in foster care. Additionally, we emphasized that Angels would always do what is in the best interest of the physical, emotional, and cognitive development of the children in our care and that reunification with the birth parents or relatives is our priority. I am always amazed at how quickly obstacles can be overcome when a diverse group of people gather and discover they share the same desire for every foster child to succeed in life. As a community, we should be proud of the many selfless individuals and the agencies who are all trying to do what's best for the foster children in San Diego.
Sincerely,
|
