May 12th

Sometimes a child needs more than one Mom. We hope all types of Moms - biological moms, step-moms, grand-moms and foster moms had a fantastic Mother's Day!

Thank you, Moms,
for all you do!

Dear Angels Friend,

Summer is almost here and I can't believe how quickly time continues to pass!

This time of year children and young adults are finishing up school and getting ready for summer break while others are graduating and moving on to bigger adventures in their lives.  May is about spring flowers coming into full bloom, giveBIG San Diego, Mother's Day and Memorial Day where we honor those who have paid the ultimate sacrifice while serving in the defense of our country.

May is also National Foster Care Month, where we honor the selfless contributions of foster families, volunteers and social work professionals who help children in foster care find permanent homes and make lasting family bonds and connections.  May is a good time for all of us to pause and reflect on all that we have done and continue to do in making a meaningful difference in the lives of children in foster care.

Thank you to all of you who participated in the San Diego Foundation's giveBIG San Diego event on May 6th!  Your generous contributions helped Angels raise just over $2,400 and was part of $1.2 million raised locally for over 350 participating charities.

Your continued support has enabled Angels to expand our ability to care for more foster children ages 0-5 who have been abused and neglected.  We have placed 34 children in loving Angels' Foster Homes so far this year and reached an organization milestone in May with a record 65 children in placement at the same time.  Unfortunately, during this year we have had to turn away 23 children, 16 of whom were siblings, because no Angels' Foster Home was available.  Please help us continue to expand our ability to care for more foster children and siblings by sharing with your family, friends and colleagues our story of success and the need for finding more wonderful foster families here in San Diego County.

You can help us the most by:

  1. Helping us find wonderful families all across San Diego County who will consider opening their homes and hearts to a foster child in need.
  2. Sharing our story of success with your friends, family and colleagues in person, at the office and via social media on FacebookLinkedIn, and Twitter.
  3. By making a financial contribution in support of the work we do in healing these fragile children from the pain of abuse and neglect.

Thank you again for all that you do for Angels!

Sincerely,

Jeff Wiemann

Interim Executive Director

Foster Family of the Month

Angels couldn't be more proud of the Garnett Family, our May Foster Family of the Month! Rachel and Errol started their fostering journey with us almost 7 years ago. The Garnett's first Angels baby Ty, eventually became available for adoption and they were thrilled to be his forever family. Ty's resilience and the never-ending love, support and stability that Rachel and Errol have provided for him have led him to become a happy, thriving, talented 6 year old.

Circle of Hope Campaign

On May 1st, an Intimate Evening with Angels event, "Cocktails for a Cause" was held. In addition to great food and friends, attendees heard directly from a current Angels Foster Family about what it is like to open your heart and home to a foster child in need and the incredible difference it makes in a foster child's life. Event participants pledged just over $45,000 in financial support toward the $240,000 Circle of Hope Campaign goal which supports Angels' efforts to recruit, evaluate, train and certify superior foster families.

If you are interested in hosting an Intimate Evening with Angels Event please contact Keeley Martin via email at kmartin@angelsfoster.org.

Donor Corner

Angels is thankful for the donations of our valued friends. Without your generosity we could not provide the stable love and care that promotes healthy childhood development for San Diego children in need.

Thank you to all our generous donors!
