Did you know?

Adverse early experiences - such as poverty or maltreatment - can weaken babies' brain development and follow them their entire lives, placing them at a greater risk for later school failure and health problems as adults.

Angels has a unique focus on prevention, based on the stable placement of abused infants and toddlers with nurturing families who promote healing and attachment, resulting in healthy growth and development.

Happy April! Spring is in full swing here at Angels and we are blooming!

We have 57 babies and toddlers in our care right now.  This is the largest number of children we have ever had at one time in our 15 year history and we are still growing! Your continued support through donations, sharing our story of success and sending future foster parents our way is what has made this all possible. Thank you for all that you do for Angels and the babies and toddlers in our care!

I recently attended an early morning celebration at the San Diego French American School where the students donated a total of $7,000 to three local charities. For the second year in a row, Angels was fortunate to be one of the recipient charities along with Make-A-Wish San Diego and Hands United for Children. On behalf of Angels, I would like to express my sincere thanks to the students, parents and teachers for their wonderful support.

April is National Child Abuse Prevention Month

Astonishingly, babies in their first year of life are more likely to be victims of abuse and neglect than children of any other age (Child Maltreatment 2012 Report).  Fortunately, the love and care provided by our foster families is able to erase most of the damage caused at such an early age and alleviate most of the known long term effects. Please take a moment to learn more about what you can do to prevent the abuse and neglect of a child (Resource Guide).

As I mentioned earlier, we are blooming with 19 new foster babies placed since the first of the year. Unfortunately, there were 12 more babies and toddlers who needed us but for whom there were no Angels families available. Eight of these 12 children were sibling sets who needed to be placed together.

We need your help to find more families willing to care for sibling sets. Please make a donation today to help us ensure more babies and toddlers in need in San Diego County have access to an Angels family. Your donation supports the little ones in our care and helps us find more homes for the more children.

Thank you again for all that you do for Angels!

Best regards,

Jeff Wiemann

Interim Executive Director

Foster Family of the Month

We are thrilled to announce the Rhodes family as our Foster Family of the Month! Sara, Josh, and their four children, Roman, Dane, Marni, and Abe have welcomed two Angels babies into their home since joining Angels in 2013. The Rhodes family keeps busy all week long with lots of fun activities from T-ball practice to gymnastics. As soon as you meet Sara and Josh it becomes clear what truly amazing parents they are. Sara is one of the strongest and most inspirational women you'll ever meet. With her can-do attitude, there is no obstacle too big to overcome. Josh is a hands-on dad, always willing to handle "diaper duty" and he coaches his son's baseball team in his spare time. He's also an excellent surfer! Together, Sara and Josh have managed the ups and down of fostering with grace, always being flexible and keeping an open mind. Their four beautiful children have excitedly welcomed both of their foster siblings with open arms and lots of fun play time!

With both of their Angels babies, Sara and Josh developed a trusting and supportive relationship with biological parents. Their encouragement has helped their Angels babies maintain healthy bonds with their family members.

The Rhodes family has exceeded our expectations with their commitment to providing a loving and stable home to each of their Angels babies. Thank you so much for all that you do each and every day to ensure that our babies are unconditionally loved!
