Meet Janae! Her mom, Jessica, tells her story: "Janae was our first foster child. We picked her up from the hospital when she was just four days old. We knew right away we loved her so much and how hard the journey could potentially be. Within a couple months Janae's biological mother gave us the blessing to adopt her, with the promise to give her a great life. Janae's adoption was finalized when she was 19 months old. She is amazing and as spunky as ever! Our hearts are full."

Dear Friend of Angels,

Here's to wishing you and yours a very Happy and Safe Holiday Season!

In November, we found extraordinary families for 6 at-risk infants and toddlers. Unfortunately, we had to turn away 3 infants and toddlers because we did not have available Angels homes.

For the past 15 years, Angels Foster Family Network has lead the way in creating and delivering innovative therapeutic programs focused on assisting newborn babies and children through age five. Our programs successfully help these children catch up and greatly overcome physical, mental and emotional delays brought on by abuse and neglect. Our ability to recruit and retain superior foster families, coupled with our focus on placement permanency affords each foster child in our care much needed stability and is the singular focus of each foster family. Foster children outside of our care commonly bounce between foster homes sometimes living in over a dozen places by age three or living in a home with as many as six other foster children of similar age. Our ability to provide foster children a loving, safe, nurturing and enriching home environment is unrivaled elsewhere in the foster care system.

As the Interim Executive Director, I am deeply honored to continue and expand on the success of those leaders who have come before me. This past year nearly 1,000 infants and toddlers through no fault of their own entered the foster care system in San Diego County. We were able to help just over 100 of these fragile children while unfortunately turning away many others in need.

As this year comes to a close, I need your help in making sure we don't have to turn away any infant or toddler in need of a loving, caring foster home.

You can help us the most by:

  1. Helping us find wonderful families all across San Diego County who will consider opening their homes and hearts to a foster child in need.
  2. Sharing our story of success with your friends, family and colleagues in person, at the office and via social media on Facebook and LinkedIn.
  3. By making a financial contribution in support of the work we do in healing these fragile children from the pain of abuse and neglect.

Thank you all for your continued support of Angels and I look forward to communicating with you regularly about our ongoing needs and the continued success of our efforts.

Happy Holidays!

Jeff Wiemann

Interim Executive Director

Foster Family of the Month: Rafael and Maria

Angels is excited and proud to recognize Rafael Gonzalez and Maria Yruegas as our December Foster Parents of the Month! Since being certified in 2012, Maria and Rafael have worked very hard to make sure all their little guy's emotional and health needs were met. Maria and Rafael have been exemplary when it comes to navigating family visitations and many appointments.  They always view every situation with an open mind and are full of positive ideas. Over the past year, the progress and growth they have helped their foster child achieve is incredible!

We are so lucky to have Maria and Rafael as part of our Angels family!

Diary of a Foster Mom: Lingering

At this point, I feel emotionally exhausted. Fostering has been - as trite as it may sound - an emotional roller coaster. There has been a steady stream of conflicting emotions at every stage of this journey and my emotional state seems to be in constant flux: frustration, satisfaction, anger, joy, sadness, hopefulness, helplessness, pride, gratitude, jealousy. (Yes, I have even felt jealous of bio-mom at times, as absurd as that sounds. After all, she gets to "keep" Sweet Baby Boy.)...CONTINUE READING.
