August 22

Scene at Angels office yesterday evening: a little toddler rescued from severe abuse spent three months with a remarkable Angels family and as hard as it was, they lovingly watched him reunify with his grandma to create his healthy forever home. Friends and relatives of both families came to say goodbye and hello to this lucky little guy. It was bittersweet for all as grandma expressed her gratitude for our wonderful Angels family...

In August, we found extraordinary Angels families for
4 at-risk infants and toddlers.

Unfortunately, we had to turn away 13
babies because we had no families available for them.

Please help us find many more amazing families to care for our babies.

Thank you to the families who have already transformed the lives of our babies.
A Letter From Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As Labor Day approaches and we say goodbye to summertime, it means just one thing here at Angels: We are gearing up for our annual fundraising event, An Evening with Angels, on October 25th at the Hyatt Aventine La Jolla.

The focus of this year's evening is "Every Child Needs a Family." All funds raised will support growing the number of Angels families, so that one day, no child will be left behind.

This year promises to be the most exciting to date. You will get to meet some of our fantastic Angels graduates, and hear stories from our families. We are offering delicious tastes from San Diego's top chefs during our cocktail reception, and, as always, there will be fun and new auction items to bid on, as well as our one-of-a-kind gift card tree.

We are thrilled to welcome keynote speaker, Laura Dern, who has appeared in iconic films such as Jurassic Park, and is the mother of two and a strong advocate for children. She will speak about the importance of safe and loving care for all children, and our shared responsibility to provide that care.

You will not want to miss this inspiring evening, and we hope you will join us by calling the Angels office at

(619) 283-8100, or purchasing tickets at www.angelsfoster.org.

We hope to see you there!

An Evening with Angels - October 25, 2013

Last year, Angels was forced to turn away 161 babies because we did not have ample resources to seek as many exceptional families as needed. Please support An Evening with Angels so no baby will be left behind.

Foster Family of the Month: Nadia and Michael

We are excited to announce Nadia and Michael Kiefer as our September Angels Foster Parents of the Month! Nadia and Michael have fostered four babies since they joined Angels in 2012. The Kiefers have exceeded our expectations, going above and beyond to advocate for their little ones' developmental and medical needs while also balancing the ups and downs of difficult reunifications. Nadia and Michael have opened their hearts to each baby who has come into their home and truly "get" what it means to be an Angels foster parent. Michael is the best foster daddy these babies could ask for and Nadia's genuine, positive attitude keeps everyone centered and focused on what is best for these children. We could not be more proud to have Nadia and Michael as part of our Angels family!

Nadia and Michael will enjoy a small token of our appreciation as part of this honor. Next time you visit the Angels office this month, look for their story near our entrance.

Diary of a Foster Mom: Meet Jessica!

Jessica and JD, along with their son Aiden, have opened up their home and their hearts to fostering through Angels.  They have been fostering their first kiddo for several months now, and hope that sharing their experience with help educate and inspire others interested in foster care.

Check out her first entry: It's a Boy!

"It had been a couple of weeks since our home was officially certified by Angels. Our training was complete and all necessary hoops were jumped through. "Supportive Husband" and I had thoroughly explained fostering to our 5 year old son and prepared him as best we could for what lay ahead..."    Continue Reading

Dear Dr. Mama,

My partner and I are fostering a little guy who's just 2 weeks old and is having lots of belly upset. He's gassy and has to strain and strain, just to pass little hard pellets of poop. One of my friends (who's an experienced mom) suggested that I try adding a little extra water to his formula - just a half-ounce or so - to thin it out a little. She says this worked well with her little one.

My concern is that the instructions on the can are very specific about 1 scoop of powder to 2 ounces of water. Is it OK to add a bit more? Does it help? I found some scary stuff on the internet about diluting formula that freaked me out!
