May 22

May is National Foster Care Month for good reason! Jessica, our awesome North County Angels Social Worker has been so busy this week with 4 placements, ranging from a lucky newborn who is being snuggled by one of our Angels Nanas (yes, we have the perfect solution for your empty nest!) to a playful two year old who is safe in the loving home of a new Angels Family. Speedy healing to all...

In May, we found extraordinary Angels families for
8 at-risk infants and toddlers.

Unfortunately, we had to turn away
babies because we had no families available for them.

Please help us find many more amazing families to care for our babies.

Thank you to the families who have already transformed the lives of our babies.
Baby 600
Angels placed Baby #600 when an older sister was reunited with her younger brother in the loving home of a wonderful Angels family. We are thrilled whenever we can keep siblings together and maintain that critical bond. At the same time, we reached a new Angels milestone! Huge thanks to the extraordinary family who made this possible.
A Letter From Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

Father's Day is right around the corner, and here at Angels we have very special appreciation for our Foster Daddies. I'd like to share a note written by one of these amazing men, Jamie Thomas, Angels Foster Parent and Board Member, who stepped up and opened his heart to small children in desperate need. Because anyone can become a father, but it takes a real man to be a Dad.

My New Favorite Word is "Daddy"

Too many abused children in the foster care system don't have a Daddy to keep them safe. Families come in all shapes and sizes and Daddies are an important piece of that puzzle. Sadly, most of the male adults who Angels babies have known had a very negative impact on their lives. They are men who have hurt these children or terrified them by hurting their Mommies. I have been an Angels Daddy to six beautiful babies over the past several years. I'm proud to be part of breaking the cycle of abuse and fear.

Father's Day has never meant so much. I know how important my father was in my life and I am thrilled to pass that gift on to our babies. It's a gift that lasts a lifetime. Angels has rescued over 600 babies from dangerous situations that would almost inevitably lead to a very scary future. These babies have been loved by so many amazing families, with Daddies who have helped break the cycle of abuse so that they will grow into caring and loving parents someday.

Now I get a Father's Day gift every day when I hear my new favorite word: "Daddy".

Jamie Thomas

With deepest gratitude, we wish Jamie and all our Angels Dads a Happy Father's Day - you are real men.

Happy Father's Day

Diary of a Foster Mom: How, How, How?

LAD attracts attention wherever he goes. Put quite simply, he is irresistibly cute. I know this because everyone who sees him has to comment on it. We once went to a restaurant where every single member of the staff found an excuse to come and adore him. The chef, the owners, the back staff, every server. I've rarely had such attentive service! People on the street stop us to say how beautiful/cute/adorable he is, and will frequently ask follow-up questions about him, which we are delighted to answer.

When we get into conversations with the various members of his "fan club", there are a few themes that frequently crop up... CLICK HERE to continue reading

Hi Dr. Mama,

My son is 17 months old and has bowlegs. We have discussed the condition with our pediatrician and he has suggested increasing his calcium intake and exposure to sun, but doesn't seem very concerned. Still, we are worried about his legs. Can you offer some advice?

Foster Family of the Month

Jon, Stephanie, Kiara (age 11) and Asher (age 9) truly understand how to unconditionally love the little ones who have been fortunate enough to call them their family. They approach their commitment to fostering as a family unit with each member contributing in a unique way. In addition to being wonderful caregivers, Jon and Stephanie have also been able to build respectful and supportive relationships with the biological parents. Kiara and Asher lovingly share their parents with the children who have been placed with them. As a big sister and a big brother, they energetically engage the little ones in play and shower them with love.  Angels is thrilled to have the Terrells as part of our family!

The Terrell Family will enjoy a small token of our appreciation as part of this honor. Next time you visit the Angels office this month, look for their story near our entrance.
Donor Corner

Angels is thankful for the donations of our valued friends. Without your generosity we could not provide the stable love and care that promotes healthy childhood development for San Diego children in need.

Thank you to all our generous May donors, who helped make National Foster Care Month so successful!
