April 5

Today, one of our amazing Angels Families said goodbye to twins that were reunified with family. Although it is never easy to say goodbye, it is often part of fostering. We appreciate this Angels Foster Family for stepping up and caring for not just one, but two little ones who needed a safe and loving home.

Angels is always looking for families willing to care for young siblings. The best part about siblings: twice the love!

In April, we found extraordinary Angels families for
7 at-risk infants and toddlers.

Unfortunately, we had to turn away
21
babies because we had no families available for them.

Please help us find many more amazing families to care for our babies.

Thank you to the families who have already transformed the lives of our babies.
May is National Foster Care Month!
People just like you are helping children build brighter futures by becoming foster parents, learning more about the foster care crisis, spreading the word, and donating to the cause. But much more help is needed.

You can realize your full potential to make a lasting difference in the life of a child. Follow us on Facebook every day in May to learn how.

You can change a lifetime.
A Letter From Our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

I'm excited to announce that May is National Foster Care Month! This offers all of us another opportunity to shine light on the urgent needs of the very youngest victims of abuse and neglect.

Like little Carson - a tiny guy who came to us last week after several episodes of shaking at the hands of a grown-up that caused bruising and bleeding throughout his brain. After surgery to place a shunt that will drain excess fluid and prevent further damage, Carson is doing well. His committed Angels parents will draw on all their training and experience to do whatever it takes to help him heal.

Because of Carson, and thousands of hurting kiddos like him, this month is a time for each of us to become advocates and join the effort to transform foster care as we know it. Some wounds are not as obvious, but all children who enter care have experienced some kind of trauma, and all deserve to be the focus of one loving family who knows how to make it better.

If you've ever thought about becoming an Angels Foster Parent, now is the time to take the next step. If you can't be a foster parent, but would like to help in other ways, contact Angels today. No matter who you are, or what you may have to give, you can help create permanent, lifelong change. Because they are all our children.

Have a wonderful month and hold your little ones close,

Diary of a Foster Mom: The Extra Mile

One of the books we read in preparation for fostering was The Boy Who Was Raised As A Dog by Dr. Bruce Perry and Maia Szalavitz. In the book, Perry describes a moment early in his career as a child psychiatrist where he broke with the traditional doctor/patient boundaries and offered his patient and her family a ride home from therapy. It was a bitterly cold winter night in Chicago, and he couldn't stand to watch a mother and three children wait at the bus stop while he had a warm car big enough to carry them. He writes: "I went back and forth, but my heart kept coming down on the side of kindness."

Dr. Perry's ethical and therapeutic dilemma came to mind as Bio-Mom begged me for a ride to LAD's upcoming pediatrician appointment... CLICK HERE to continue reading

Dear Dr. Mama,

I keep reading about how kids aren't getting enough sleep these days and that it can lead to poor school performance, fatigue, moodiness...even obesity! It makes sense, and I get that kids need more sleep than adults, but how much exactly?

I'm a single mom with a 4-year-old girl and an 8-year-old boy, and by the time we get home in the evening, eat dinner, and finish homework, it's already late. Add a little snuggle time on the couch with our favorite TV shows, and we all head for bed in unison. I'm pretty sure that's not what the experts have in mind, so give it to me straight: what are the sleeping rules?

Thanks!

Foster Family of the Month

Matt and Patti started their journey with Angels in 2006, as a family of 2. They are now a family of 5. Matt and Patti stated, "...our goal as foster parents has been to offer each child unconditional love and acceptance.  We have found that each case is a new adventure over which we have little control, but we enter these adventures with a determination to love that baby whether it is for two days, two years, or forever."

We are so appreciative for all they have done for the 9 little ones that have come into their hearts and home. Thank you to this amazing family!

The Brasher Family will enjoy a small token of our appreciation as part of this honor. Next time you visit the Angels office this month, look for their story near our entrance.
Our New Partner: Bella Bundles
Bella Bundles, an awesome new San Diego brand, creates reversible bibs, blankets and towel hoodies for the hippest bundle in your life. Their products fit the modern mom who wants style in anything she puts on her child.

We are proud to partner with Bella Bundles, who will be giving back to our San Diego babies by donating a portion of profits to Angels from every bundle sold.
