January 25: Yesterday, a very charismatic infant was placed in the loving home of one of our Angels families. Although this little one is small, she has a big personality and a smile that can brighten up any room. We see great things in the future for this positive baby girl!

Welcome to 2013!
In January, we found extraordinary Angels families for 5 at-risk infants and toddlers.  Unfortunately, we had to turn away 16 babies because we had no families available for them.
Please help us find many more amazing families to care for our babies.

A Letter From Our Executive Director

Greetings, Friends!

The New Year is already busy here at Angels; we're energized and ready to spread that loving feeling!

We've just completed another training session of new families - a wonderful group of parents who are now prepared to welcome our little ones and offer the care and nurturing they need to heal. It is gratifying to see their excitement and anticipation, awaiting the phone call about a child who desperately needs them.

One of the great pleasures of my job is the afternoon I spend with each group, delving into the challenges our babies have faced in their short lives, the effects on their health, and the strategies that keep them well. Part of the curriculum is a game we play called "No Child in ... JEOPARDY," during which spouses match wits in friendly competition to learn the particulars of keeping our babies safe. It adds levity and fun to what could be dry and forgettable information.

We will have another class starting in early March. It is great news that this class is already almost booked more than a month out! Don't get me wrong - we will always find room for a qualified family who's ready to get started, and it's wonderful to know we will have a class full of exceptional families. One more step towards our goal: the day when no child is turned away from an Angels home.

Hoping love is in the air for all of you this month. Hold your little ones close and let them know they are adored.

With Love,

Rachel

Diary of a Foster Mom: Out Sick!

Our fabulous Amy has been struck with the flu. We wish her a quick recovery and look forward to more thrilling diary entries upon her return to Diary of a Foster Mom next month.  In the meantime, check out this great article about forming a healthy bond with your little one: Bonding With Your Baby.

Dear Dr. Mama,

I've been wondering about this question for a long time now, ever since my first was born five years ago, and I've never gotten a complete answer:

What's the truth about teething? When should teething start? How long does it last? Is there a certain order the teeth should come in? Can teething cause a fever or a cold, or even rashes in the diaper area or all over the body? What's the best remedy for teething pain? I've heard so many different stories, I don't know what to believe anymore. My second is three months old now and I want to be a little better prepared. Please give it to me straight.

Thank you!

Thank You to Our Heroes!

Physicians and business owners all over San Diego are joining our search to find new and exceptional families for our babies.

A HUGE thank you to Dr. Martin Bastuba! He graciously placed this brochure stand in the reception area of his office. We hope that this display and information will help us find more Angels families to love our babies. You're our hero, Dr. Bastuba!

If you would like one of these acrylic trifold brochure stands for your workplace, please contact Karen at (619) 283-8100 ext. 229. You can be a hero, too!

Angels Parent Training includes an in-depth exploration of the experiences our families may have had in the past with grief and loss. This session always receives raves from our parents who say it helps them empathize with the feelings and behaviors of our babies.

Thumbs Up Baby
Angels is thankful for the donations of our valued friends. Without your generosity we could not provide the stable love and care that promotes healthy childhood development for San Diego children in need.

Thank you to all our generous January donors!
