This Month on Facebook

December 21:  Today was adoption day of a special Angel, Sabrina. Sabrina was placed in her Angels home when she was 18 months old. I will never forget her little face as she toddled into her foster mom's lap for the first time. Seven years has been quite the journey for Sabrina and her mom but due to her mom's never-ending commitment and love for Sabrina they are now an official family. It was an honor to be there today to witness this.  -Annika Winter, Program Director

A letter from our Executive Director

Dear Friends,

As Angels' new Executive Director, I enter 2013 with exciting goals for the coming year. 2012 was record breaking for our little agency, as we placed more babies in safe and loving San Diego homes than ever before. This is a gratifying milestone, and it increases our determination to move ahead to the ultimate goal- a day when every baby in need has the caring arms of an extraordinary family to welcome them.

To make this happen we must push ahead on two fronts: right here in our own backyard, where more than a thousand children under age three enter the foster care system each year, and beyond our boundaries where hundreds of thousands of babies in our country are the unwilling victims of abuse and neglect.

As you know, today Angels has two successful sister agencies; Angels Santa Barbara and Angels Oklahoma City. 2013 is the year we will expand the reach of our groundbreaking model even more. We hope to begin just over our borders with Angels Orange County and Angels Riverside, and are currently in conversation with leaders in those communities.

Please help us realize our dream of Angels Everywhere: One child. One loving family. Spread the word to your network in every community, because this is the care our vulnerable little ones deserve. They are all our children.

Wishing you a healthy and successful New Year,

Rachel

Diary of a Foster Mom: First Visit Ever?

 "I'm going to jail tomorrow."

For some reason that flowed right out of my mouth when I was asked of my plans for Wednesday. Not sure why... probably because I have never ever stepped foot in any sort of jail or prison facility nor have I ever come close to doing so.  Though, it was the truth and it stopped every person in their tracks when it was first heard...

Dear Dr. Mama,

Our little one is seven months old and has been down with an awful tummy bug for several days now. It started out with a few episodes of vomiting, then the next day he started having runny poops several times a day. Through it all he was pretty cheerful and still eating okay, but whenever he went it was very loose, and every now and then he would vomit (usually all over our bed!). He's also developed an ugly red diaper rash from all that pooping.

Yesterday we took him to his doctor, and she suggested we switch to soy formula until the virus runs its course because it's easier on the digestion. She said it may take a few days, but as long as he's staying hydrated and acting like himself it's safe to just let it pass and keep using Desitin and Nystatin on the rash.

Within 15 minutes after the first bottle of soy he vomited it all up, and it was different from the vomiting before - much more forceful. He kept vomiting afterwards every few minutes, even when there was nothing in his stomach, and since then he's not so cheerful anymore. Plus, the diaper rash has gotten worse and it's so angry red it seems like there's no skin on his little bum. What do I do now!?

Adoption Congrats

 Congratulations to

Kelly on the adoption of Sabrina
on December 21, 2012.

Thank You for EVERYTHING!

We are so grateful to the numerous groups, offices and families who helped us restock our baby closet this holiday season! We count on donations in the months of November and December to help our families with the first days with their Angels babies. Bottles, bibs, clothes, diapers, wipes, formula, food, blankets, strollers, socks and so much more were all donated and are ready for the babies we will find happy homes for in 2013. Thank You!

Lindsey Will be Missed, Welcome Keeley!

Lindsey Hogg, our multi-talented Office Guru is making a move to do Marketing and Event Planning for the San Diego County Farm Bureau. We will miss her knowledge and love for our babies and families, and wish her the very best as she builds her career.

Keeley Martin is joining Angels as our new Administrative Coordinator! She will be offering office support and organization to the entire Angels staff, taking over social media management, and jumping into event planning with both feet. Please say a cheery 'HELLO' next time you call the office.
