Mites Go For Gold in Traverse City and Muskegon
Many Mite Hockey players were also going for the gold here in Michigan during the last two weekends in February. Over 85 Mite teams and over 700 players took part in events in Traverse City and Muskegon. This was the third year MHA had sponsored the Mite Jamborees in each of these locations.

smiles to go around. Players who attended the Muskegon event got to attend a Muskegon Lumberjack Game that night for free. In Traverse City a new format was tried where teams were reseeded for the second day of competition and a single elimination format was played.
In total MAHA sponsored four Mite Jamborees this season. It is impressive to see the increased overall skill of the players participating in these types of events. Team enjoyed competing against many new teams that they had not played before. The Traverse City Jamboree included teams from Cheboygan to Monroe.

Video: From Child's View, Adults Find Full-Ice No Fun
By USA Hockey -
Ever wonder how a full-sized sheet of ice looks through a child's eyes? USA Hockey put adult players on a hockey rink scaled to simulate what a child experiences when they play full-ice hockey. The results weren't pretty, but they were captured in a new video released last week. Ken Martel, technical director of USA Hockey's American Development Model took it all in and sat down for the following Q-and-A on the topic.
Q: What was the inspiration for building the up-scaled hockey rink at the Pond Hockey Championships this year?
Martel: As adults, it's hard to imagine or remember what it was really like trying to play the game on a full-sized ice sheet. And for as much as we try to explain the benefits of cross-ice hockey for skill development and fun among young players, there's nothing that conveys that message better than having adults actually experience the challenges of this up-scaled full-ice environment for themselves. So that was our inspiration - and it says something that we needed an eight-acre lake to do it.
