In past years, more than 75 dedicated Lakeside volunteers have worked together to help improve the overall appearance of the grounds and facilities.

Dock Repairs Taking Place
|
Last year, Lakeside suffered the misfortune of being directly in the path of four major sustained windstorms that resulted in record surf and significant damage.
This past fall, scuba divers were dispatched to analyze damage to the dock. On the east side of the dock, they found two damaged areas on the external sections of the metal plates fortifying the dock.
Once damaged, powerful wave action washed away fill rock used in the interior section of the dock structure. In turn, this created major voids where the concrete surface of the dock began to collapse.

Celebrate the Lakeside Daisy on May 18
|
In early May, an ordinary looking patch of gravel along Ohio's Most Beautiful Mile bursts into full bloom.
The bright Lakeside daisy (Tetraneuris herbacea) is one of Ohio's most spectacular wildflowers. This long-lived perennial grows where few others can, on nearly barren limestone bedrock in full sunlight.
In early to mid-May, the bright, yellow flowers adorn the otherwise bleak and sunbaked landscape of the Marblehead Quarry; the only natural population of the Lakeside daisy in the U.S. It is a federally threatened species and has been listed as endangered in Ohio since 1980.

Teen Center & Programming Taking Shape
|
Thanks to your generous support on #GivingTuesday, we've already started work on the new Teen Center, which will be located in the Lower Pavilion Room, across from Dockside.
Over the past few weeks, extensive wiring has been completed to allow for new lighting fixtures and additional fans to be installed.
The construction crew has also been busy creating a gaming space for teens by creating new walls in the massive space.

Hotel Lakeside Lobby Restrooms get Facelift
|
Last year, during roundtable discussions with Lakeside Chautauqua President/CEO Kevin Sibbring, we continuously heard requests to update the Hotel Lakeside lobby restrooms.
We took your concerns into consideration and hired contractors to update the restrooms for you this summer.
Over the past few weeks, the bathrooms have been gutted to the studs and subflooring and ceilings have been replaced.

Complete a Questionnaire about Community
|
On August 14-18, Lakeside will welcome Dr. Christine D. Pohl, Associate Provost and Professor of Christian Ethics and Church in Society at Asbury Theological Seminary.
She has completed extensive focus group research identifying the core practices essential for community life and authored the book Living into Community: Cultivating Practices that Sustain Us.
We will be using Dr. Pohl's research to begin a dialogue about community and the core practices needed for a thriving one. You're invited to participate in interviews and storytelling opportunities this spring and to take an electronic questionnaire now.
