Counting Down the Hours Until #GivingTuesday
Join us tomorrow, December 1, 2015, as we participate in #GivingTuesday, an international day of giving. #GivingTuesday encourages us to celebrate generosity in our own communities and inspire families to give back in unique ways.
On this special day, Lakeside will collect donations to provide enhanced teen programming and a youth activity center.
Several families have stepped forward with a collective challenge gift of $55,000 to encourage Lakesiders to give a first-time gift or a second gift on #GivingTuesday. We would like to thank these families for their love for young Lakesiders and for their generosity.
We invite you to join in the celebration and consider a special gift on #GivingTuesday or during the giving season. To get a jumpstart, give a gift online today.
Have You Heard of Lakeside Underground?
Nina Buoni has been coming to Lakeside all 15 years of her life. Her dad and brother discovered it by chance one day, and fell in love with the community.
Soon after, her family began renting different cottages each summer, and the length of their stays grew each year until they decided they couldn't get enough. The Buonis purchased a cottage and now stay at Lakeside the entire Chautauqua season.

Being a teenager, her perspective on Lakeside is different from most stories that I've read in the Lakesider newspaper or The Front Porch blog. She has a deep passion for sailing and rattles off her proficiencies proudly. It's evident that Nina knows her way around a sailboat. She took lessons as a child, and last season she even worked at the Sailing Center.

Lakeside Underground Paves the Way for #GivingTuesday Initiative
This summer, many Lakesiders provided feedback to help plan for Lakeside's future. They graciously participated in interviews, focus groups, community forums, surveys, presidential roundtable discussions and commented on social media, as well as on Lakeside's blog, The Front Porch .

Through these touchpoints, critical needs and opportunities were identified, including the importance of youth- and teen-focused programming (ages 12-17) to keep this age group engaged in the Chautauqua experience.

Lakeside Underground, a successful program for youth and teens, led by Steven Prosser, connected with 626 young Lakesiders this summer through activities such as "Water Wednesdays," "Olympic Week" and a movie night on the beach. There was an emphasis on recreational events and 10-minute devotional and scripture discussions related to the daily and weekly themes.
