Lakeside Chautauqua

Community Forum Set for September 5
Lakesiders have spent the summer providing feedback to develop a master plan for Lakeside's future.

You have graciously participated in interviews, focus groups, community forums, surveys and presidential roundtable discussions and have also commented on social media and The Front Porch blog.

Through these touchpoints, you have identified successes, important aspects and critical needs, as well as long-term opportunities and your vision for the community, buildings and open spaces.

Now, it is time to unite together. Join us for a Community Forum at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, Sept. 5 in Hoover Auditorium.

Ohio Historical Marker Dedication Planned for September 7
An Ohio Historical Marker will be placed at the corner of Walnut Avenue and Fifth Street to honor the service of the Lakeside Volunteer Fire Department.

A dedication ceremony will take place at 10 a.m. Monday, Sept. 7. All are invited to attend.

The Ohio Historical Markers Program, established in the 1950s, encompasses more than 1,500 unique markers that tell the state's history as written by communities.

Markers are erected by local community sponsors in partnership with the Ohio History Connection and describe the people, places, things and events of Ohio's past. There are 20-30 new markers placed each year.

2016 Preachers of the Week Announced

Lakeside is part of the Chautauqua Movement, which flourished during the 19th and 20th centuries.

It is considered to be one of the greatest revival movements in American history, dedicated to Christian values and cultural excellence,
nurturing mind, body and spirit.

Lakeside's programming is built upon the four pillars of the Chautauqua Movement: religion, education, cultural arts and recreation.

The religion pillar is administered by Lakeside Chautauqua's Religious Life Department, overseeing a number of programs and activities, including Sunday Worship Services, Faith for Living Hour, Vespers by the Lake, Children's Ministries (Children's Church, God Squad, Middle Grade Madness and Lakeside Underground), Interfaith Week and the Wednesday Night Family Picnic.

Growing the Endowment is Imperative to Preserve Lakeside

One of Lakeside Chautauqua's strategic goals is to develop the
financial resources needed for sustainability.

Years ago, Lakeside's leaders were dedicated to securing the future of the community and decided to begin an endowment.

The endowment is like a savings account, where the principal remains untouched and a small percentage of the interest is used to help fund operations.

Lakeside's endowment totals $3.8 million, which is small for a 142-year-old community. The vision of building a larger endowment remains extremely imperative for Lakeside's future and long-term sustainability.
Submit Photos for Lakeside Photo Contest
Lakesiders of all ages are invited to submit photos to be featured in the 2016 Calendar of Events brochure, as well as on Lakeside Chautauqua's social media pages, websiteThe Front Porch blog, Lakesider newspaper, advertisements and more.

Photos are needed for the various panels of the Calendar of Events brochure, including nurturing the mind, body and spirit; family and youth programs; accommodations and more.

Images should represent people enjoying Lakeside through photos of families, traditions, children, religion, education, cultural arts (special events and programming), recreation, landscape or architecture.
