This book will also be available next summer at The Fine Print bookstore.

The Dream Tree CD

What the Rafters Heard Book

This book is the second printed work from the Lakeside Writing Project. It tells the story of what the rafters in buildings around Lakeside have heard over the last 140 years through a collection of short stories, poetry, photos and more. All printed works in the book were submitted by Lakeside community members this past summer. What the Rafters Heard is available online. This book will also be available next summer at The Fine Print bookstore.

Lakeside Rascals

Lakesder Linda Smith is selling her children's book, Lakeside Rascals. However, there are a limited number of books available, as new books will not be reordered. The book is $20, and orders are being taken before Christmas. Shipping is an additional $5. Please allow three days for delivery. To place an order, email your name and address to walrusandwife@roadrunner.com. Proceeds will go towards Smith's next published book that is in the works.

Preserving the Lakeside Chautauqua Experience

As the holidays draw near, the Lakeside Chautauqua Foundation would like to thank you for your continued generosity to help preserve the Lakeside Chautauqua experience.

Whether through financial contributions or volunteering time to uphold the four pillars of Chautauqua, your commitment and love for this beloved community is greatly appreciated.

Your financial gifts support virtually every aspect of what renders the Lakeside Chautauqua experience as distinctive and unique.

This giving season, reminisce about your favorite Lakeside experiences - an inspiring worship service, a thought-provoking lecture, a creative art class, a family recreational experience or the beautiful gardens - and give generously to those experiences that have changed your life.

Through your financial gifts, the Lakeside Fund continues to climb steadily toward the $815,000 goal. As of this week, Lakeside has collected $350,000.

Year-end charitable contributions are still eligible to receive 2014 tax benefits. Make a quick and easy online donation to ensure that your gift will be processed prior to Wednesday, Dec. 31.

 Community Update from the Board

The Hotel Lakeside not only represents the historical foundations of Lakeside Chautauqua itself, but, along with the Fountain Inn, is the primary source of short-term accommodations on the grounds, not only during the summer but also in the shoulder seasons of spring and fall.

Nearly three years ago, the Lakeside Board of Directors charged a taskforce, now a standing committee of both Board and non-Board members, with studying hotel accommodations at Lakeside and developing a plan for the preservation of the historic structures, improving the guest experience and operating finances of the hotels, and securing the long-term viability of these key Lakeside facilities.

Early last summer, the committee brought an initial proposal for the Hotel Lakeside and Fountain Inn to the Board of Directors. The Board took no action on the proposal, but -- though the proposal was still in the development stage and subject to the Board's review -- the Board decided to share the draft's outlines with the Lakeside Chautauqua community. Because summer is the time when most Lakesiders are on the grounds, this seemed a valuable way to assure transparency, even though the Board was not ready to take action on the report.
