Seating for kyphosis patients can be challenging. By accommodating a kyphosis, the user can sit back comfortably in the chair, which helps improve overall positioning, head support and comfort.

Another Option: With their unique, flexible strapping, the Broda chairs can be used to accommodate a kyphosis. The Broda Midline Full Recliner can be adjusted to accommodate kyphosis by reversing specific straps along the back of the chair to allow for approximately an extra 1.5" space for the curvature to help bring the user back in the chair.

If the kyphosis is more severe, specific straps can be removed on the back to accommodate the curvature. The area where the straps have been removed can be covered with a pad around the back of the chair for comfort. SelfCare rents the Broda Midline tilt and recline wheelchair.

Due to the additional weight, complexity and arm strength required, one arm drive wheelchair mechanisms are often disregarded in favour of power. The CLD (Cyclical Lever Drive) is an efficient type of lever operated one arm drive that can be added to Invacare 9000 wheelchairs. It is easier to use and provides faster, more efficient forward propulsion for the amount of effort expended. The CLD allows users to take advantage of the easy portability of a manual wheelchair and still maintain independent propulsion. SelfCare has the CLD on a 9000XT available for demo.
