 Here is a discussion with Doug Chase, Medical Equipment Specialist in North Vancouver and Surrey, about his product pick.
SelfCare: Hi Doug, what is one of your favourite products?
Doug: I love the Rehosoft! In North Vancouver, we get a lot of walk-in customers wanting to select a raised toilet seat. The Rehosoft is a great alternative for all of these reasons:
- It is comfortable. It is a great choice as a soft padded raised toilet seat alternative for someone looking for a softer seat.
- It is one piece and it is easy to attach securely. The Rehosoft attaches with compression around the bowl of the toilet and it is amazing how secure it is.
- It has a wide opening so it is a great alternative for men.
- There is no "dial" in the front to hit your leg on.
- It is easily removed for cleaning or when guests are coming, so your guests do not have to use the raised toilet seat.
- It is good looking - in a raised toilet seat kind of way. It works exceptionally well with the Buckingham FoldEasy toilet frame.
SelfCare: Wow - that is a lot of great benefits in one raised toilet seat. Are there any shortcomings?
Doug: The Rehosoft does not come with arms. This is why it works well with the Buckingham FoldEasy which has an adjustable arm height. And it only comes in one height - but it is 4" which is the most common height.
SelfCare: What are some other specifications of the Rehosoft we should know about?
Doug:
- Height = 4"
- Weight capacity = 260 lbs
- Dimensions = 16" across x 17" long x 7" high (total height, from the bottom of the rim that goes around the outside of the toilet bowl for attaching the seat)
- Cleaning = use soapy hot water and usual detergent
- Disinfect = use a diluted chlorine solution (e.g. bleach, although this treatment may cause discoloration) or baking soda
- Material = polyurethane and PVC outer cover which is antimicrobial and antifungal
