New Products from the International Seating Symposium - the Focus CR Tilt Wheelchair
Effortless Tilt: The Focus CR tilt wheelchair is the newest entrant in the "effortless tilt" category of tilt wheelchairs. What makes it different?
EASIEST centre of gravity adjustment:
- Adjust by loosening just 2 bolts (read more about the adjustments on Product Notes)
- Get feedback from the chair that the adjustment has been done correctly - e.g. if the chair is set for the correct center of gravity, it rests at 20 degrees of tilt when allowed to return to its resting position
EFFORTLESS tilt: Use just one finger to put someone in and out of tilt
BETTER TILT MECHANISM:
- Two control paths with different centres of rotation
- Precision sealed bearings used for the tilt mechanism
- Control paths are under the seat pan away from the food drop zone
- Teeth of the control path are in the top of the path pointing down (not pointing up to catch anything that falls into them)

Scooter Training Study by Dr. Ben Mortenson - Participants Required
Dr. Ben Mortenson is in the preliminary stages for a study he is facilitating that is looking at how to better train scooter users to use their mobility device safely.
The intervention that he will be investigating is the Scooter Training Program. However, one of the first steps, before he undertakes this larger study, is a smaller study that will explore the feasibility and psychometric properties of the planned measures and data collection tools that will potentially be implemented in the larger intervention study.
Dr. Mortenson is beginning data collection and recruitment for this first research project.
Details: The study is looking for individuals who:
- are 55 years of age or older;
- have owned a scooter for at least 3 months;
- have mobility limitations that prevent you from going more than one block without an assistive device;
- can read, write and speak in English.
Dr. Mortenson would appreciate the word being spread around. If you know of someone who might be interested, can you pass along the handout below.
