Adjustable axle wheelchairs, which allow the centre of gravity to be adjusted appropriately for each individual and reduce the effort required to propel the chair, are increasing in popularity as more choices are available. One of these is the Quickie QXi.

• lightweight (less than the Quickie 2 and LXI)
• easily adjustable rear axle
• one frame for majority of seat to floor heights
• increased rigidity from the seat tubes dropping in between the frame (like the Helio)
• offers all the adjustability of the Quickie2 (with a few exceptions like depth adjustable back)

Users who would benefit from the Quickie QXi:   

• need a reliable chair and are looking for something lightweight, adjustable, and economical
• can improve their mobility with the optimal positioning of the rear wheel and centre of gravity
• need a really low seat to floor height (12"-12.5")
• want performance, but don't have the same demands as an extremely active user

If you have needed equipment for a palliative client, chances are Barb has assisted you. In addition to helping private clients in the store and on the phone, Barbara is the North Vancouver contact person for the BC Palliative Benefits program.

Barbara joined SelfCare in February 2008 and quickly took responsibility for the rapid response to palliative equipment requests. Barbara has a wonderful, calm and gentle demeanor, but her key strengths are her:

• product knowledge about all types equipment, including complex rental tilt wheelchairs and support surfaces,
• sense of urgency that makes sure that when equipment is needed for a discharge, it gets delivered - NOW, and
• empathy and compassion that makes customers feel they are special and keeps customers coming back just to talk to Barbara.
