LAST ISSUE OF THE CACC NEWSLETTER

Dear CACC member

Yes, this will be the last issue of our Newsletter in its current form. We are very happy to announce that starting mid June we will have a local newspaper, the College Area Connection. This newspaper will serve the entire CACC area, mailed directly to approximately 4,000 homes. All of the content that you find in this newsletter will now be published in the College Area Connection.
The College Area Connection is published by the Mid City Newspaper Group. They currently publish eight local papers, and are thrilled to add us.to their organization.
The mission at Mid City Newspaper Group is to share news and information that celebrates our wonderful and unique neighborhoods , and to promote the local independent businesses that keep our communities vibrant, safe, clean, and attractive to visitors and residents alike. Their motto is "Community, Kids & Causes", and their method of operation supports this by sharing good news with neighbors, getting our children involved with the writing, production, and distribution of the papers, and supporting community charities, fundraisers and other local causes.
One of their other objectives is to encourage the local economy. When our neighborhood residents and businesses contract, hire and purchase locally, they invest in the strength and success of our local community. Choose Local First brings neighbors together, and puts the money we spend back into the vitality of our local communities.
Check out the website for midcitynewspapergroup.com, and check for the first edition of the College Area Connection in your mailbox the third week of June!

APRIL MEETING SUMMARY

At our April meeting, new Eastern Area Eastern Division Police Department personnel were introduced. Officer John Steffen ([email protected] ) will replace Adam Mc as Community Resource Officer (CRO); Lte. Yang replaces Lte. Swanson as supervising lieutenant for the College Area. Captain Colon remains captain of the Eastern Division.

CACC/CACPB officers were elected for the 2016-17 fiscal year: Jose Reynoso - President/Chair; Rhea Kuhlman- Vice President/Vice Chair; Jerry Pollock - Secretary; Terry Shirley - Treasurer

The board voted to recommend approval of an amended proposal to build student apartments at 5541 Lindo Paseo. At the request of the City, the developer increased the number of units from 5 to 8 units, thereby increasing the number of stories from 3 to 4 stories. It was noted that parking is inadequate for the increased number of units, but since the request came from the City, the developers were compelled to follow that recommendation. They will reimburse students who purchase passes to park the additional cars in SDSU parking structures.

A proposal for a wireless communications facility including a 30' tower at 6650 Montezuma Road (vacant College Lutheran Church property) was continued until such time as the Lutheran Synod makes a decision about the disposition of the property.

A proposal to build a Jack in the Box restaurant at 6992 El Cajon Boulevard (NW corner ECB & 70th) was continued pending completion of the required transportation study by the developer. The transportation study will determine whether the developer will be required to dedicated 10' of right of way for intersection improvements at ECB and 70th, and such a requirement could impact the design of the project.

A proposal to build a five story student apartment building at 6213 Montezuma Road (next to Zuma Apartments) was continued pending receipt of a City Cycle Review, which will be done after developer has submitted his final plans. Residents of Mary Lane, which would abut the proposed apartments, requested that windows opening to the south not be operable, to cut down on noise and thrown objects issuing from the apartments. They requested a sewer capacity study, since existing sewer capacity in that location is already maxed out. And finally, they requested that the rooftop party deck proposed by the developer be eliminated, again to cut down on noise and objects thrown from the roof. The Project Review committee made recommendations to this effect.

Also at the meeting, the board voted to support a proposal for the creation of a monthly College Area- centric newspaper to replace the current CACC newsletter, and gave the chair of the Outreach Committee authorization to work with the publisher to effect this change.

The board heard a presentation regarding the mid-City pipeline project. It was noted that the construction would tie up traffic on 70th between El Cajon Blvd. and the I-8 for as long as two years. The board voted to authorize a letter to the City requesting consideration of a night-time or extended hour work schedule, and asking that the contractor find a staging area for heavy equipment that is not in a residential neighborhood.

Finally, the board authorized a letter to Tubman Charter School requesting a reorganization of the Tubman Board, to help bring the school into good standing with the School District.

The weekly SDSU Farmers' Market started in September 2009 with only eight food vendors. It has since blossomed into a "hang out spot" on Thursdays, with more than 20 booths ranging from produce, to recycled jewelry, to a variety of cultural food vendors and to live music.
The SDSU Farmers' Market is committed to providing all students, faculty, staff as well as the surrounding community with local, organic and sustainable food options
