we breathe. Discover the importance of weather and how it 
affects us. Investigate the power of the force, magnetic force! 
Students learn about magnetic fields and test their strength 
against an electro-magnet. Uncover how rocks & gems are 
formed & peek beneath the earth's crust. Find out how fossils 
are made and take home your own "fossilized" shark tooth. 

Tuesdays Sept. 23rd - Nov. 18th (no class 11/11) 
8 week session, Grades 1-5, 3:00-4:00 pm 
$106 per child

 Programs Volunteer Coordinator Needed
Please consider helping out! 

This is a behind-the-scenes position that requires project-based work and can be done at home. This individual is NOT required to attend PTA meetings and does not have to be on school campus for the work involved. Basically we need an organized individual who can collect, organize and consolidate a list of all parent volunteers based on Jump Start Day volunteer forms that were submitted, classroom sign-up sheets and other misc. sign up lists. When a PTA program or department is need of volunteer help, the Volunteer Coordinator will share the appropriate list of volunteer names to that program/department when requested.

Fund For Excellence
GET A FREE LIMITED EDITION CAR MAGNET!
If you have not donated to the Fund For Excellence, please consider giving any amount today! We encourage you to give $1 a day, which amounts to $180 per child for the school year. You will receive a limited edition car magnet if you give this amount, though any donation is accepted! 

The Fund For Excellence allows our school to keep several important programs such as the Nutcracker, FAME (Fine Arts Mini Experience), assemblies, computer lab, Instructional Assistants and more! Without your donation we would not be able to continue these very special and vital programs. 

 

Fund For Excellence donations can be made in the office or online through PayPal. 

To make a donation online, visit the office or the PTA website and look for the Fund For Excellence buttons on the far right side of the homepage. If you choose to donate a dollar a day ($180) per child, please forward a copy of your receipt to vpways@strandwood.org to receive your car magnet!

Message from our PTA President
Become part of the PTA today! It's fun! 

Welcome back to school! I hope by now you are all settling in for another great year. As I mentioned on Back to School Night, I feel fortunate to be part of such a supportive and generous parent community. During the 2013-2014 school year we collectively donated 30,000 hours of our time and raised over $150,000 in support of our school. We couldn't do it without you!

I'd like to invite each of you to attend our first General PTA meeting of the year on September 11th at 7 pm in the school library. Free babysitting is provided. At that meeting you'll have a chance to meet the executive board, find out what we do, and discover ways in which you may be able to help. We will also approve our budget and programs for this school year. You do not need to be a PTA member to attend the meeting, but you do need to be a member to vote.

We encourage all Strandwood parents to become members of our PTA (simply joining does not commit you to do anything). Membership is $7.50 and the membership form can be found HERE. Please don't hesitate to contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

Come see what Scouts is all about! Join us for an evening of information and discussion concerning Strandwood Pack 282's Cub Scouting Program and how you can get your son signed up for Cub Scouts of America! See the flyer for more information HERE.
Dyslexia Support Group
Monday, September 8
Does your child have a language learning difficulty? Are you interested in finding out more about technology and resources that might help? If so, please join us at a meeting for parents of children with dyslexia. We meet once a month, on the first Monday of the month. However, due to the holiday, this month's meeting will be Sept. 8 at 8:30 am in the Parish Hall of Church of the Resurrection, 309 Gregory Lane. For more information e-mail amanda.szakats@gmail.com.
Support FPHE and Schools...by Eating at Magoo's!

Head to Magoo's Grill with family and friends for a delicious meal and support our public schools at the same time! During September, Magoo's Grill of Pleasant Hill will donate 50% of your food order to the FPHE school grant program!!
