Thank You!!

A huge "Thank You" to everyone who was able to come out and support Strandwood's library at the Book Fair last week! A special thanks to Emily Ludlow and Lizzy Peters for all of the time and effort they put in to making the spring fair such a success. I continue to be amazed by the generosity of this school community, and the way in which you demonstrate to your children the importance of reading and literature.

Other than a voluntary donation to the Library Birthday Book Club, the fall and spring book fairs are the sole funding for our library. Without your contributions in the form of purchases, we would not be able to buy new books and other materials for the students and staff at Strandwood. Thank you again for making reading a priority!

5th Grade Yearbook Photos, Dedications, Surveys Due TOMORROW!

Photos of your students from their K-5 years here at Strandwood are due tomorrow, April 18th. Please put photos onto a CD/flash drive (marked with your name so we know who to return it to) and place it in the Yearbook basket in the office or hand it to Kristy Safarians.

Dedications and student surveys are also due in the Yearbook basket by April 18th. A $5 cash donation can be given in the office along with your dedication form.

Lastly, we are also accepting donations ($15 cash) to defray the cost of the yearbook. If you choose to donate, this can be turned into the Yearbook basket in the office. Donations will be accepted through tomorrow, April 18th.

Final FAME Lessons This Month

This month, final FAME lessons of the year are underway. Docents are teaching students about the composer Alexander Borodin (1833-1887) and the artist Marc Chagall (1887-1985). Both men were from Russia, and their heritage was crucial to their work. Borodin used Russian folk tales in his music, and students listened to "Polovtsian Dances" from Prince Igor and viewed scenes from a lavish film version of the opera. Marc Chagall's paintings, such as "I and The Village," feature surrealistic objects from his childhood village including floating or upside down objects, peasants, cows, farm elements, and religious objects. Along with Picasso and Modigliani, Chagall helped found Cubism.

Thanks to all our docents!
As FAME wraps up another successful year, we would like to thank all the coordinators, docents, and lesson planners who take the time to plan, research, and execute educational and entertaining lessons on art and music for Kindergarten through fifth grade classes. We also want to thank Mrs. Kim, teachers, and administration for supporting the FAME program throughout the year. A special thank you to Ms. Nora Plutzik for graciously sharing her music room with us. We invite parents to get involved in this exciting program next year. Just look for the FAME table at Jumpstart Day! We are grateful to the following docents for their time and dedication to the FAME program (*denotes a coordinator, set designer, or lesson planner): Becky Alatorre*, Martha Alexander*, Rose Bargmann*, Alison Clary*, Dara Duane*, Julie Ebding*, Amy Foss*, Karen Higgins, Christina Katz, Angela Keeton, Maritza Kim, Annie LeClaire, Laura Mahay, Angela O'Neill, Cyndy Palermo, Kevallyn Paskos, Leslie Shanks*, Jennifer Talbot, Heidi Taylor, and Debbie Towle.
