Every Monday morning Email Club members receive important information regarding upcoming events and communications from The PTA and Strandwood staff via the Roadrunner. The Roadrunner also provides links to important fliers and new items on the PTA and school websites. What better way to start your Valentine's Day than with pastries from Panera! Please join us in supporting Strandwood's Outdoor Ed fundraising efforts at Panera on Thursday, February 13 from 4 pm - 8 pm!

 

You can get a delicious dinner or lunch, then stock up on bread and pastries for your Valentine!
 
Watch for the flyer in your child's folder...and don't forget to bring the flyer so that we can get our share!!!
Get Ready to Run!
Strandwood Girls on the Run Spring Program
Girls on the Run is a non-competitive, curriculum-based running program dedicated to educating and building confidence in girls grades 3-5. SIGN UP TODAY! Enrollment is first come, first served and registration forms are due online or in the school office by February 12th. Encourage your daughter to invite her friends to join the fun as well!

 

Enroll online at http://www.gotrbayarea.org/ or complete the registration forms (available in the office) and turn them into the office (attention Tina Ochoa).

 

Program Details:
DATES:   Feb 24 - May 10
DAYS:     Mondays & Thursdays
TIME:    3:00 - 4:15pm
LOCATION: Strandwood Upper Grade Playground (Ball Wall)
COST: $150 (includes 20 lessons, t-shirt, water bottle, healthy snacks and registration for end of the program 5k run in SF!)

 

***NO GIRL TURNED AWAY - scholarships are available - obtain the scholarship application online or email tb-ochoa@att.net to request one.***

Read & Dream Logs Due Friday
This month's Read and Dream logs are due this Friday, January 31st. Please have your completed logs turned in to your child's teacher or the dedicated box in the office by 3pm. Thank you very much! Keep up the good work!
Strandwood Talent Show

 

Attention:  All Strandwood Performers!

It's time once again to start preparing your act for the Annual Talent Show!

Get your dancin' shoes out, your musical instruments tuned, warm up your voice...and GET READY!

Performance dates for the 2014 Strandwood Talent Show are:

Friday, April 11th and Saturday, April 12th.

Dyslexia Discussion Group
A discussion group is forming for parents of children with dyslexia and other language-learning differences. The group will meet on the first Monday morning of the month at Church of the Resurrection/Peter Pan Preschool, 399 Gregory Lane. The first meeting will be February 3rd at 8:30 a.m. in the Plaza Room. For more information, please e-mail Amanda Szakats at gszakats@yahoo.com.
 
Also, the Walnut Creek Library is hosting a screening of the film "Rethinking Dyslexia." The film will be shown on Feb. 4 from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the library - 1644 N. Broadway, Walnut Creek.  
Mad Science Begins Today

For all those who signed up, Mad Science begins today at 3:00pm in C-7, the Science Room. See you there!

Flag Football Coming to Strandwood

Does your child love football? Do they want to learn more about the game in a fun environment? Or are you interested in your child learning and playing football without all the contact? Then join our coaches as they teach the fundamentals of passing, catching, throwing, offensive and defense strategies, teamwork skills, and sportsmanship! All levels welcome, both boys and girls. 

 

Please register by filling out a form in the office or going here: 

 

 

Day: Thursdays

Date: 1/30 - 4/3 (10 weeks)                         

Cost: $120 for 10-week class

Time: 3:00 - 4:00 PM

Location: Field

Common Core Night for K-5th grade Parents
Tuesday February 4, 6:30-8:00 PM at the Pleasant Hill Library
Find our what Common Core really looks like in the classroom and get answers from educators. Teachers will be sharing Common Core aligned mini-lessons in Language Arts, Math, Science, and Social Studies.  
Parents will have an opportunity to take home curriculum materials to support Common Core learning at home. Please join us.
