Sweets Needed for Sugar Plum Shoppe!
Calling All Bakers!

We still need cookies, cupcakes, sweet treats and savory items for the 3rd Annual Sugar Plum Sweet Shoppe that is open before & after each Nutcracker performance. These can be either homemade or store-bought, just make sure items such as cookies or brownies are individually packaged and easy for us to sell at the bake sale. We hope to sell each item for $1, so please package accordingly. All items need to be brought to school by 3pm on Friday, December 6th or the morning of December 7th. Please contact our Sweet Shoppe Coordinator, Melaine Huth, at melaineph@sbcglobal.net with any questions.

Gingerbread House Contest

The Annual Gingerbread House contest is back again this year. All houses are due no later than Friday, December 6th @ 3pm.  Winners will be announced and houses will be displayed at the Nutcracker Performance on December 7th. Please contact our Gingerbread House Coordinator, Andrea Lucero, at savannahsmom143@yahoo.com with any questions. Click here for the contest entry slip.

Nutcracker Roses!

How special would it be to present your child with a bunch of roses after the performance? This year we will have wooden roses for sale to benefit the Outdoor Ed program for next year's 5th graders (current 4th grade class). They will be sold in bunches for $5. Please look for them at the beginning of the show. Last year they sold out in all three shows so make sure to get yours early! The petals are assorted colors, made of wood, and will be a beautiful keepsake and reminder of your child's performance for years to come.

Help Build a Gingerbread City!
Pleasant Hill Library, December 10 at 6:30pm

On Tuesday, December 10th at 6:30pm, kids, teens, and families are all invited to the Pleasant Hill Library to build one epicly delicious Gingerbread City! The library has all the gingerbread, frosting, and decorations you need, but everyone is welcome to bring extra candy they want to use. Together, we're going to turn our most fantastical dreams into sweet reality! For more exciting activities this holiday season, check out the city's November/December issue of Outlook magazine.

Important Nutcracker Details

The Nutcracker Performance Day is fast approaching and we are still in need of many volunteers. Please contact us at nutcracker@strandwood.org immediately if you are interested in volunteering for any of the following Performance Day (12/7/13) positions:

- Ushers (need 1 per show to help guide people to their seats, etc.)
- Cleanup (need help breaking everything down and cleaning up after the final show: 5:30pm to 7pm)

We truly appreciate your support and help keeping this Strandwood tradition going!

Nutcracker Seating Policy

Each performer will get two seats to the show in which their child is performing. (For example, if you have one child in show 1, you get two "seats" for show 1. If you have two children in show 1, you get four seats to show 1.) There will be a list at the door and guests may check in under the student's name. We have very large casts this year so seating is very limited and every person counts as a seat taken, including babies and small children.

Need extra tickets? Please contact nutcrackerseats@strandwood.org to put in your request for extra seats. Note that requests will be considered on a "1st come, 1st served" basis and there is NO GUARANTEE that the requests can be accomadated (this will depend on others giving up their "seats" and if any extra seats are available).

Remember that we are paperless so you will not receive actual "tickets." Just check in at the door under your child's name.

Dress Rehearsals & Final Show Information

Dress rehearsals will take place during school hours the 1st week of December and all performers need to come to school in their basic costume requirements for dress rehearsals. The following is the dress rehearsal schedule:

Tuesday, December 3rd @ 10 am - Show 3
Thursday, December 5th @ 10 am - Show 2
Friday, December 6th @ 10 am - Show 1

Remember that dress rehearsals are a good opportunity for other family members to see your child perform (since seats are very limited on Performance Day). Audience members can arrive at 9:45am for the dress rehearsal and must sit toward the back of the MUR due to students sitting on the floor toward the front of the MUR.

For full details about costume requirements and which class is performing in each show, please review the "Show Schedule & Costume Requirements" information posted on your child's classroom window/door. A reminder with detailed information will also be sent home in your child's communication folder prior to dress rehearsals.

If you have any questions regarding dress rehearsals, costumes, or Performance Day (12/7), please email nutcracker@strandwood.org.
