Calling All Bakers!

We need cookies, cupcakes, sweet treats and savory items for the 3rd Annual Sugar Plum Sweet Shoppe that is open before & after each Nutcracker performance. These can be either homemade or store-bought, just make sure items such as cookies or brownies are individually packaged and easy for us to sell at the bake sale. We hope to sell each item for $1, so please package accordingly. All items need to be brought to school by 3pm on Friday, December 6th or the morning of December 7th. Please contact our Sweet Shoppe Coordinator, Melaine Huth, at melaineph@sbcglobal.net with any questions.

Buy See's and Send a Child to Camp!

Outdoor Ed is a 5th grade tradition and "Rite of Passage" at Strandwood that takes place for one week in the Fall. All 5th graders attend the Outdoor Education Program that is located in the Santa Cruz mountains. To make this trip happen, the 4th grade class starts fundraising one year in advance. We will be selling See's Candies to help toward this effort. Packets have been distributed to all 4th grade Strandwood students and there are extra forms in the office. All orders and money must be returned to the box in the school office NO LATER THAN TUESDAY, DECEMBER 3rd. Please collect money when order is placed and make checks payable to Strandwood PTA. Deliveries will be made to your child's classroom prior to Winter Break. If you have any questions, please contact Cindy Turner at pcturner@sbcglobal.net. We appreciate the support from the entire Strandwood community.

Nutcracker Seating

Each participant in the Nutcracker is allotted 2 complimentary seats for their assigned performance. Because of the large number of performers this year, additional seating is very limited.  Unfortunately, younger siblings and little bodies count as much as adults, so even if you plan to have a little one sit on your lap, they still must be counted.

Please email nutcrackerseats@strandwood.org with any requests. You should receive a confirmation email stating that your request has been received. You will hear back closer to the performance date stating if you have been assigned additional seating or not. Also, those who will not be using all of their assigned seats, please email nutcrackerseats@strandwood.org  and let us know if you can donate extra seats. Thank you for your understanding!

The Nutcracker Performance Day is fast approaching and we are still in need of many volunteers. Please contact us at nutcracker@strandwood.org immediately if you are interested in volunteering for any of the following Performance Day (12/7/13) positions:

- Dressing Room Parent Volunteers
- Ushers (need 1 per show to help guide people to their seats, etc.)
- Seating (need 1 person for each show)
- Setup (need people to arrive at 7:30am to help set up for the big day)
- Cleanup (need help breaking everything down and cleaning up after the final show: 5:30pm to 7pm)

We truly appreciate your support and help keeping this Strandwood tradition going!

Dress Rehearsals & Final Show Information

Dress rehearsals will take place during school hours the 1st week of December and all performers need to come to school in their basic costume requirements for dress rehearsals. The following is the dress rehearsal schedule:

Tuesday, December 3rd @ 10 am - Show 3
Thursday, December 5th @ 10 am - Show 2
Friday, December 6th @ 10 am - Show 1

Remember that dress rehearsals are a good opportunity for other family members to see your child perform (since seats are very limited on Performance Day). Audience members can arrive at 9:45am for the dress rehearsal and must sit toward the back of the MUR due to students sitting on the floor toward the front of the MUR.

For full details about costume requirements and which class is performing in each show, please review the "Show Schedule & Costume Requirements" information posted on your child's classroom window/door. A reminder with detailed information will also be sent home in your child's communication folder prior to dress rehearsals.

If you have any questions regarding dress rehearsals, costumes, or Performance Day (12/7), please email nutcracker@strandwood.org.
