PTA Meeting this Thursday
by Molly McCabe
PTA President

Welcome to the 2013-2014 school year. I hope by now you've settled into your school routine and are excited for all the great things that are happening in our Strandwood community. I'd like to invite you to attend our first general PTA meeting of the year this Thursday (9/12) at 7 pm in the school library. Free babysitting is provided during the meetings.

At this meeting we will review and approve the PTA budget, fundraisers, and programs for the year, so this will be a great opportunity to learn about everything our PTA does. Our program for the evening will focus on ways to get involved in our school community including a brief presentation from each VP about the needs within their area of responsibility. We will also get an update on our upcoming Fall Fundraiser from the program coordinators.

Hope to see you there!

Community Service Day
September 28, 2013

The 9th annual Community Service Day is on Saturday, Sept. 28th beginning at 7:30 a.m. at Pleasant Hill Park, 147 Gregory Lane. The first 600 volunteers get a free t-shirt, snacks and a free pancake breakfast served up by the Lions Club. Immediately following the breakfast at the park, volunteers disperse to their various school sites.

Please help make a difference at Strandwood by working on fun and important projects that will focus on the beautification of school grounds. Tasks include weeding, planting vegetation, painting and repairing a fence, and general cleaning of the campus. Please bring gloves, water, sun screen, and gardening tools. Plan on wearing old clothes that you can get dirty!

Are you ready to get involved, have fun and meet new people? Then mark your calendar! On Thursday, September 19th, please come meet us in the Multi-Use room after drop off (8:15 am) to kick off the planning of the 2014 Dinner Dance Auction. We will be discussing the venue, theme, committee assignments, donations and other items on the auction calendar. We would love to welcome new ideas! Whether you are a new Strandwood parent or a past volunteer, we value your input! There are many ways to get involved, so come to the meeting to find out how! We will have coffee and pastries for you to enjoy. Thank you!

Library Birthday Book Club
The Library Birthday Book Club is back this year. Simply donate $15 to the Strandwood library and a new hard cover book will be given to the library in honor of your child's birthday. The book will be selected by Mrs. Burns, our library media teacher, and presented to your child during his or her library time. A custom book plate will be placed inside the book with your child's name and birthday. This is a great way to honor your son or daughter and help our school library. The form can be found on the Strandwood PTA site under "forms".
