Last Week to Help the Food Drive

This is the last week to help with our food drive (and for your child's class to win a pizza lunch)!! The Strandwood Student Council is hosting our second annual food drive until Friday, April 26th. We have already collected 700 lbs of food - fantastic!!  Students can bring in as many food items as possible as often as possible (see suggested items below) to help their class win BIG!

There are boxes in each classroom for donations. The class with the most amount of food donated within the time frame will receive a PIZZA PARTY FOR THEIR ENTIRE CLASS!! Last year Strandwood families gave close to 4,000 cans/boxes of food!! So please give generously, and help support our families in need!

Do you want to make a difference at Strandwood? Do you want to help support our school's great programs and play a role in deciding what new programs to adopt? Consider joining the PTA Board.  The PTA funds all the programs you love here at Strandwood: Nutcracker, art, science, and classroom instructional aides. We have many openings on the board, as many of our board members have fulfilled two-year terms.

The following positions are open: president, executive vice president, vice president of Communications, assistant vice president of Communications, assistant vice president of Ways and Means, and assistant vice president of Programs.

Don't Miss the 2nd Annual Amazing Race of Pleasant Hill!

WHEN:  Sunday, April 28th, Noon to 4:00 pm

WHAT:  With provided clues, explore Pleasant Hill while participating in activities that are challenging and fun for all ages. The Race is based on the popular TV Show 'The Amazing Race.'  However, the Pleasant Hill Amazing Race is not a timed race.

HOW IT WORKS:  Meet at Magoo's Grill of Pleasant Hill at 1250 Contra Costa Blvd. at Noon. Here you will receive the race rules and instructions. As you proceed through the course, each stop will challenge you with clues and activities (which will resemble those on Minute to Win It). Do as much of the course as you can and meet at Pleasant Hill City Hall at 100 Gregory Lane at 4 pm for the finale and for the announcement of the winners.

MAKE IT FUN:  Wear matching T-shirts or hats! Prizes for best costume/outfit.

PRE-RACE BRUNCH:  Competitors and FPHE supporters, join us for brunch hosted by Magoo's Grill from 10 am - Noon. Magoo's will be offering its famous Eggs Benedict and other breakfast favorites. Cost is $15 for adults, $8 for children ages 12 and under. Purchase tickets at www.fphe.org. Proceeds benefit FPHE (Foundation for Pleasant Hill Education).

PRE-REGISTRATION REQUIRED:  $50 for a family or a group of four people or less. Pre-register at www.fphe.org. All groups (civic, sports, church, bunko, bocce, singles, co-workers, scouts, music, neighbors) welcome! Please contact friends and help FPHE spread the news of this incredibly fun event.

VOLUNTEERS:  If you would like to volunteer for the event, please email amazingrace@fphe.org.

For more information, please see the Amazing Race flyer!

To donate to FPHE, visit www.fphe.org or mail check to FPHE, PO Box 23851, Pleasant Hill, CA  94523.
