Opportunity to Help Families in Need

For over 4 years, a volunteer food pantry (MDUSD HOPE) has helped families within the Mount Diablo Unified School District community. The food pantry is maintained by a group of volunteers at the District office. Currently, the food pantry cupboards are close to bare.

Child Welfare and Attendance Liaisons (CWAs), School Psychologists and other District employees pick up boxes of food from the main District office and deliver them to families in need.

Starting April 15th and running through April 26th, the Strandwood Student Council will be hosting its second annual food drive with a friendly competition between classes. Students can bring in as many food items as possible as often as possible (see suggested items below) to help their class win BIG! There will be boxes in each classroom for donations. The class with the most amount of food donated within the time frame will receive...wait for it...a PIZZA PARTY FOR THEIR CLASS!!

Last year Strandwood families gave close to 4,000 cans/boxes of food!! So please give generously, and help support our families in need!

Running Buddies Needed!

Strandwood's Girls on the Run team is now recruiting Running Buddies to support our athletes at the Girls on the Run 5K in Golden Gate Park on Saturday, May 11. Partner with an incredible girl from our team, then run the Girls on the Run 5K with her - encouraging her, cheering her on and sharing in her excitement along the way! You will recognize your buddy's limits and support her to achieve her goals. What a great way to get inspired while having the time of your life!

Running Buddies must meet the following requirements:

1. Be at least 16 years old.

2. Model enthusiastic, supportive, fun and flexible behaviors at all times.

3. Attend our practice 5K on Monday, April 22 at 3 pm (at Strandwood) to meet your buddy and help her finish her practice race.

4. Be available for the Girls on the Run 5K on Saturday, May 11 at 8:45 am. (You will need to register and pay for the race separately. Registration fee is $36.)

5. Agree to a basic background screening by Girls on the Run if not assigned by a parent of one of our athletes.

6. Have a fabulous time supporting your buddy.

Please email Molly McCabe at molz5791@yahoo.com if you are interested in being a running buddy.

Please be sure to note if you have a specific girl you want to buddy with.
