Gingerbread House Contest Winners!
by Andrea Lucero

This year's Gingerbread House contest showcased our students' creative talents with a holiday flare at the annual Nutcracker. We received entries from Strandwood's transitional kindergarten class all the way up to fifth grade. Entries included everything from gingerbread and marshmallow tree farms adorned with candy canes and gumdrops to two-story cabins with blue sugar crystal hot tubs in the back. GG House 3

This year's first place winners were Sasha and Athena Meline, of kindergarden and second grade. The sisters created their two-story winter wonderland with stained glass windows of fruit rollups. They received much praise on their creative fence made of pretzel sticks and marshmallows.

GG House 2 Our second place winner was Annika Barré of third grade. Her winter scene was the epitome of a classic gingerbread house. It was obvious that she had fun designing and creating every detail, from her candy cane fence to her M&M path and gingerbread family.

GG House 1 Our third place winner was Miss Zoe Chesterman of second grade. This creative young lady had us in awe with her Christmas village of red and green. The 4 gingerbread structures decorated in Christmas colors and all the trim were not to be outdone by the pond with Swedish fish swimming in it!

Thank you to all who entered the contest, and congratulations to our winners!

Red Cross Fundraiser Results

Thank you to all students, families and friends for their efforts in helping us raise money for the victims of Hurricane Sandy, and a special shout out to Brooke Mahay for chairing the event and William Davis who individually raised over $300.00. Together, we turned in $1250.44 to the local Red Cross office.

Great job!
