Nutcracker News
Calling all Volunteers!

The Nutcracker needs nearly 100 parent volunteers for the show to succeed. We are still looking for help during dress rehearsals and on show day. Please contact our volunteer coordinator Julie Tuggle at octuggle@yahoo.com to help out. To assist in the dressing rooms, please contact Lori Howard at fireknight1@aol.com. We are still in need of dressing room helpers for the following slots:
  • Show 2 dress rehearsal on Thursday, November 29th, at 10:00am - 2 parents needed
  • Show 3 on Saturday, December 1st, at 4:30pm - 2 parents needed
Thank you very much!

2nd Annual Gingerbread House Contest

Let visions of sugarplums dance in your head while the smell of gingerbread wafts through your kitchen as you prepare to showcase your creative entry in the 2nd Annual Gingerbread House Contest.

All houses are due no later than Friday, November 30th @ 3:00pm. Only one house per family, please. Winners will be announced and houses will be displayed on Saturday, December 1st, at The Nutcracker. If you have questions, please contact Andrea Lucero at savannahsmom143@yahoo.com.

Sugar Plum Sweet Shoppe

We need cookies, cupcakes, sweet treats and other savory items for the 2nd Annual Sugar Plum Sweet Shoppe that is open before & after each Nutcracker performance. These can be either homemade or store-bought, just make sure items such as cookies or brownies are individually packaged and easy for us to sell at the bake sale. We hope to sell each item for $1, so please package accordingly. Last year we earned more than $750 that went directly back to the Nutcracker production budget. All items need to be brought to school by 3pm on Friday, November 30th, or the morning of December 1st. Please contact our Sweet Shoppe Coordinator, Melanie Huth at melanieph@sbcglobal.net with any questions.

Costume Basics & Nutcracker Closet

All performers SHOULD now have their costume basics. If you are having issues, please contact our Nutcracker Closet Coordinator, Alexandra Kemp at nutcrackercloset@strandwood.org - there are still items available. Dress Rehearsals are the week we return from Thanksgiving break. Please do not wait until the last minute!

Permission Slips

We are still missing permission slips. PLEASE turn in your permission slip to your child's teacher or the office. Click here to download a copy. Children without SIGNED permission slips will be unable to perform in the final show on December 1st.

Dress Rehearsals

Show 1 Dress Rehearsal is Friday, November 30th @ 10:00am
Show 2 Dress Rehearsal is Thursday, November 29th @ 10:00am
Show 3 Dress Rehearsal is Tuesday, November 27th @ 10:00am

All students should come to school in costume basics on the day of their dress rehearsal. Questions? Please go to our school website for additional information, click here for a Show/Class schedule, or contact nutcracker@strandwood.org.

Seating Policy

Each performer gets two "seats" to the show they are performing in. (For example, if you have one child in show 1, you get two seats for show 1. If you have two children in show 1, you get four seats to show 1.) There will be a list at the door and guests may check in under the student's name. We have very large casts this year so seating is very limited and is based on fire code capacity for the room, not actual chairs taken (everyone needs to be counted, including babies and small children).

We are paperless this year due to past issues with lost tickets, misplaced tickets, forgotten tickets, etc. Thank you for your patience and understanding.

Nutcracker DVDs

Preserve your Nutcracker memories by ordering a DVD of your child's show. Order forms can be found in your child's Nutcracker information packet or by clicking here. Drop your order form with payment in the Nutcracker box in the office. DVD orders will also be taken at each show.
Opportunity to Help Homeless and Foster Children

Last year, the Mt. Diablo Unified Homeless Outreach Program for Education (Mt. Diablo HOPE) served 549 homeless students, and Mt. Diablo Foster Youth Services served 236 foster youth. That's 785 vulnerable children who need our help this upcoming holiday season!

Please consider donating gift cards to Safeway, Target, or Kohl's. You may send donations by gift cards or checks (please make checks payable to "Mt. Diablo HOPE") to the Mt. Diablo Unified District Office or to the Strandwood office (we'll bring them to the district on December 17th). You can even donate online.

Thank you for your support.
