Key Administrative Positions Filled by Wilhelm and Johnston
The Allen ISD Board of Trustees approved the appointment of two key administrators on January 18.  Jennifer Wilhelm was named as the new assistant superintendent for learner services and Dr. Jason Johnston was named as the new Allen High School Principal.
Jennifer Wilhelm replaces Beth Nicholas, who recently accepted an administrative post with Mesquite ISD. Wilhelm is currently McKinney ISD's director of curriculum and instruction and learner support. Since 2008, she has also served McKinney ISD as the coordinator of learner support and the coordinator of elementary science.  She began her teaching career in Little Rock, Arkansas as a middle school GT, science and technology teacher.  She also taught advanced science at the Technology Magnet in Richardson and Johnson Middle School in McKinney. Jennifer Stein-Wilhelm is also a 1994 graduate of Allen High School.
"We are excited about the experience Jennifer brings to Allen ISD," said Superintendent Dr. Lance Hindt. "We look forward to her leadership as we plan for the opening of an elementary GT academy this fall and continue planning for the new Lowery Center and STEM Center."
Dr. Jason Johnston has been the principal of North Forney High School in Forney, Texas since 2014. He previously served as principal at Cain Middle School in Rockwall and assistant principal at Webb Middle School in Garland.  He began his education career as a business teacher and coach at Rowlett High School in 2001.
"We are very pleased to bring Dr. Johnston to Allen High School," added Hindt.  "He brings leadership experience, an understanding of campus operations and a thorough knowledge of curriculum."
Head Football Coach Named
Terry Gambill has been named as the Allen Eagles head football coach and assistant athletic director. Gambill  replaces Tom Westerberg, who recently accepted a position as athletic director and head football coach at Barbers Hill High School.
Gambill has been head coach for Midway High School near Waco since 2010.  Prior to that, he served as assistant head coach and defensive coordinator at Allen High School under Westerberg and Coach Joe Martin from 2001 - 2010.  He began his coaching career at Garland High School in 1985 and also coached in Duncanville, Southlake and Forney ISD before coming to Allen in 2001.
As Midway head coach for the past six years, Gambill has a record of 68-13.  The team was a 4-A State Finalist in 2011, a 5-A quarter finalist in 2012 and regional semifinalist in 2010, 2014 and 2015.  He was part of the 2008 Allen High School Division II State Championship and state semifinalist teams from 2003 and 2006.  (More Information)

Allen ISD's annual Kindergarten Roundup will be held on Thursday March 17 from 3:30 p.m. - 5 p.m. at all elementary schools.  This is the first day that parents may register their children for the 2016-2017 kindergarten class. Parents may register their children after March 19 but the Roundup Day is preferred because teachers and staff members are available to answer questions and provide resources.  Click here for more details.
A kindergarten readiness program is being held on March 2 at 6 p.m. in the Lowery Center Auditorium for parents who would like more information about kindergarten expectations and services.
We ask current Allen ISD parents to please share this information with young families through church or daycare so that we can reach as many kids as possible in the spring.

Procedures Outlined For Bad Weather School Closings

With the potential for winter weather, parents should become familiar with Allen ISD's bad weather school closing procedures. Under most circumstances, a decision to close or delay school due to bad weather will be made by 5:30 a.m. or earlier. If enough information is available, school district officials may make a decision by 10 p.m. the night before.

If school is closed or delayed, the announcement will first be posted on the Allen ISD website at www.allenisd.org, the Allen ISD Twitter account and Cable Channel 98. Major television and radio stations will also be notified. Because of the large number of school districts in the area, the television and radio announcements are sometimes delayed 30 to 45 minutes. Information will also be posted on the Allen ISD Facebook page. Finally, parents will be notified by automated phone calls through the SchoolMessenger notification system. It is important that parents keep their contact phone number current in Skyward if they want to receive SchoolMessenger notifications.

Parents are encouraged not to call the school offices since no employees are answering the phones that early in the morning. We also ask that parents do not call the notification system back as this also slows the system down.

The web site and Facebook are the quickest sources of information for a school closing. If school is not closed for the day, no announcements will be made and students should report at the normal time.

Check The E-Bulletin Board For Allen Community Events

Allen ISD's Community Bulletin Board, "Allen on the Go," publicizes activities for local non-profit groups and organizations while saving them - and the district - time and money. The initiative allows these groups to post information on programs, fundraisers, classes and other activities on an Allen ISD-hosted Web page rather than having to print hundreds of fliers.
Allen ISD posts fliers from non-profit groups on the Community Bulletin Board at www.allenisd.org/communityboard. The service is free to local non-profit organizations.
