AHS College And Career Night Planned For September 11th

Allen High School will host its annual College and Career Night on Wednesday, Sept. 11, 2013, from 7 to 9 p.m. More than 160 representatives from a wide range of colleges, universities, and career schools from across the nation will be available to meet with students and parents. Parents of all secondary students and students are welcome to attend.

The Allen ISD Board of Trustees is hosting a community event on October 8 to share information about trends and issues facing the school district. The program will also respond to many of the frequently asked questions the school district and board members receive about Allen ISD.

Called (Almost) Everything You Wanted To Know About Allen ISD, the program will be held in the Allen ISD Performing Arts Center from 6:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Tuesday, October 8.

Presenters will be Louise Master, president of the Allen ISD Board of Trustees, board member Susan Olinger and Beth Nicholas, assistant superintendent for learner services and interim superintendent of schools.

"We want the program to be light and informative," according to Master. "Instead of presenting on a single topic, there will be many topics covered during the 90 minutes. I think that parents will enjoy the format and wide range of information."

Topics discussed will not be specific to elementary or secondary parents so everyone is encouraged to attend.

Lindsey Dedication Set For Sept. 22
The dedication of Lindsey Elementary School will be held on Sunday September 22 starting at 2 p.m. The school, which is named for long-time teacher and  board member Lois Lindsey, opened on August 26. The community is welcome and invited to attend.
Community Reception Planned For Sept. 24 To Recognize Dr. Helvey

A reception will be held on September 24 from 4:30 p.m. - 6 p.m. in the Performing Arts Center Commons to honor Dr. Ken Helvey, superintendent of schools.  Helvey announced his retirement in July and will officially leave the school district on September 27.

The Board of Trustees has begun the process for selecting a new superintendent and has appointed Allen ISD's current assistant superintendent Beth Nicholas as the interim superintendent of schools.

Allen High School Library Hosts Theodore Roosevelt Exhibition
The Allen High School library is hosting "Theodore Roosevelt," an exhibit produced by Humanities Texas from Aug. 26 until Sept. 23.

Based on an exhibition organized by the Lyndon Baines Johnson Library and Museum, "Theodore Roosevelt" offers fascinating glimpses into turn-of-the-twentieth century America and the man at the helm. The 22-panel exhibit features Roosevelt's writings, photos and texts.

The public can view the exhibit on Mondays and Wednesdays between 8 a.m. and 5 p.m.  Please be sure to bring a state photo ID for clearance through the school's security system.

This program is made possible in part by a grant from Humanities Texas, the state affiliate of the National Endowment for the Humanities. AHS history teacher Amy Gumpf acquired the grant for the exhibit. For more information, contact [email protected].
Allen To Host Band Contest
Allen Eagle Stadium will play host to the Texas Dairy Queen Bands of America Regional Band Competition on October 12 starting at 9 a.m.
Twenty-four north Texas high school bands will take part in the marching band competition. As hosts, the Allen Escadrille will not compete in the event but will perform an exhibition at 4:30 p.m.  The top ten finalists will compete from 7 - 10:15 p.m.

The Escadrille will also compete that same day in the UIL Regional Contest at Clark Stadium at 2:45 p.m.

In addition, the Escadrille will perform at halftime of the Dallas Cowboys  football game against the St. Louis Rams on September 22 in AT&T Stadium. The game will be aired on Fox (Channel 4) although only a small portion of halftime programs are usually shown on TV.

Check The E-Bulletin Board For Allen Community Events

Allen ISD's Community Bulletin Board, "Allen on the Go," publicizes activities for local non-profit groups and organizations while saving them - and the district - time and money. The initiative allows these groups to post information on programs, fundraisers, classes and other activities on an Allen ISD-hosted Web page rather than having to print hundreds of fliers.

Allen ISD posts fliers from non-profit groups on the Community Bulletin Board at www.allenisd.org/communityboard. The service is free to local non-profit organizations.
