Notes from Bishop Mark
● Bishop Light Recovery from Open Heart Surgery: Bishop Light underwent successful heart bypass surgery earlier this week. After a couple of days in ICU, he is now recovering in a regular hospital room. I visited for a while with him this morning and, while he is not the most enthusiastic patient, he is doing well for this point in his recovery. Please keep him in your ongoing prayers.
● Pastoral Care
--The Rev. John Furgerson has been recently diagnosed with lung cancer. Please keep him and his wife, Alice, in your prayers. --The Rev. Deborah Hunley's husband, Bill, had surgery yesterday at UVA hospital to remove a tumor on one of his kidneys. Keep Bill's recovery in your prayers.
● Visitation: I visited with the people of St. Luke's, Hot Springs, on July 10, and there was one confirmation. Click the red link to see more photos on Facebook.

● Pokemon Go has been in the news and in our communities. Foreward Movement offers a bulletin insert and other resources for parishes to use, particularly parishes who have discovered a Poke-spot or Poke-gym on their grounds. Find those resources here. ECF Vital Practices has provided resources and examples related to this phenomenon as well.
Even as we welcome game-playing wanderers, the Rev. Connor Gwin, diocesan Canon Missioner for Youth and Young Adult Ministries, reminds us not to lose sight of bigger issues in his latest blog post, Pokemon Go is a Distraction.
● Emily Sproul, diocesan Media Missioner, and Jim Cramer, lay missioner from Trinity, Staunton, have teamed to provide the second installment in our series, Hands and Hearts for Haiti. ● The Acts 8 Movement offers the Episcopal Church a welcome video for congregations. They hope this video can be a key component in a plan to invite your neighbors to church this fall. It is free to use on your website, on Facebook, etc. ● A note for parish offices using Constant Contact: We recently became aware of a Constant Contact glitch that resulted in long-time subscribers receiving two copies of each email. CC has fixed the glitch, but individual contact lists need repair to end the duplicates. Sort by email and look for email addresses listed twice. In most cases, no name will be associated with the newer profile, which can be deleted. We're hoping the diocesan list is repaired--but this email will be the test. Anyone getting two copies should let Kate Garcia know.

● There's still time to sign up for Outreach Camp at the Phoebe Needles Center. Participants will work with neighbors to learn the skills needed to remodel the houses of the elderly and those in need in our community. This service learning program is all about working together with people in the community to accomplish a task none of us could do by ourselves. Read more about all the summer sessions.
