Canon for Administration Alan Boyce
Canon Alan Boyce To Retire:
It is with mixed emotions that I announce Alan's well-earned retirement after 28 years as Canon for Administration of Southwestern Virginia. Alan and I have been discussing the timing of his planned retirement for the past several months. As his wife Beth has also chosen to retire this year, Alan has decided the time is also right for him.

In this short Update format I cannot express the many substantial ways that his dedication, wisdom, humor, and friendship have made it possible for me to begin my ministry as your bishop.

From Alan:
"I have been blessed by the privilege to serve the awesome people of this diocese for 28 years. I consider myself fortunate to have had this long-term opportunity to exercise my ministry on behalf of the diocese and to leave knowing that I will continue to nurture lasting friendships all across Southwestern Virginia. Beth and I are very excited about arriving at this next season of our lives together in that we share many common interests and goals for our rewired and reimagined time together. I look forward to serving and working with you through our upcoming Convention in January."

Alan and I will be working together in the coming months to design and carry out this big staff transition. Our January Convention will give our diocesan community opportunities to appreciate and celebrate Canon Boyce's many years of faithful and committed service to our Church.

● Commission on Ministry Makes New Postulants: The COM held daylong interview sessions this past Friday with several aspirants discerning calls to ordained ministry. Grace Aheron, from St. James', Roanoke, was made a postulant for the priesthood. Jon Greene, from St. Thomas', Christiansburg, and Shirley Ruedy, from Trinity, Staunton, were made postulants for the diaconate. The COM interviewed others who have further steps to complete before postulancy may be granted.

Parish Visitations and Meetings: On the The Day of Pentecost I was with the people of with Emmanuel, Bristol. (Click on the red hyperlink to see more photos.) The joyous morning included two baptisms, seven confirmations, and four receptions. On this coming Trinity Sunday, I will visit Trinity, Staunton.
