Notes from Bishop Mark
● St. Nicholas Offering Reminder: The St. Nicholas Appeal is running well behind last year's ingathering. So that we might have a nice offering for our recipients, please announce a reminder for the next couple of Sundays.
● The Rev. Whitney Burton to be Ordained:Tomorrow at 10:00 AM at St. John's, Roanoke, I will ordain the Rev. Whitney Burton to the priesthood on behalf of the Bishop of Atlanta. The Rt. Rev. J. Neil Alexander will preach.
● Council Details:
--Clergy Gathering on Friday: Following our gathering Friday morning there will be space reserved in the restaurant for those of us who would like to eat lunch together. The cost of lunch is not included in registration and will be on your own. You may also choose to eat elsewhere in the city.
--Friday Eucharist: Clergy will process in cassock, surplice, and white or festival stole.
--Retired Clergy are encouraged to attend Council, or part of the events as they are able, but are not required to do so.
● Canon Gwin named Winterlight Coordinator: The Rev. Canon Connor B. Gwin has been named as one of the coordinators of the Winterlight conference at the Kanuga Conference Center in Hendersonville, North Carolina. Winterlight is a week-long conference for Episcopal high school students that takes place each year from December 27 to January 1. The conference is in its fortieth year. Canon Connor and his co-coordinator, Mrs. Perry Jones of Macon, Georgia, will lead the conference for the next three years.
On the First Sunday after the Epiphany, I worshipped with the people St. Thomas, Abingdon. (Click the red link to see more photos on Facebook.) On this Second Sunday of Epiphany my visitation will be at St. John's, Wytheville.
● Pastoral Concerns:
--The Rev. Claude McCauley died on December 28 in Richmond. During his lengthy ministry, he served as rector of six parishes in Virginia, three of them in our diocese. May he rest in peace and rise in Glory.
--Pray for The Rev. John Eberman who is in hospice care in Blacksburg.

● The Youth Ministries Team has planned a Youth@Council mission project, and parishes have been asked to help youth accomplish it. Click here for a list of items they hope to collect. Check with your parish to find out more! Items can be brought to St. John's, Roanoke, on Friday evening when the youth arrive. ● Registration for Annual Council is open here. The Early Bird discount ends January 18, 2016. ● Please note: Check-In and Late Registration for Council will open at noon on Friday, January 29, at the Hotel Roanoke, and end at 4:30 PM. Meal tickets may not be purchased after 4:30 PM on Friday; the Regency Room and Pine Room Pub will be available on the hotel premises. Late Registration will reopen at 8:30 AM on Saturday. ● Parish Reminders Regarding Council: --If audit reports for 2014 have not been received at Evans House prior to the opening of Council on Jan. 29, it is unlikely that the parish delegation will be seated. (The decision would be up to the Standing Committee.) --If no Certificate of Election is on file, your delegation cannot be recognized at Council. --Consult the chart of Received Reports in the Resources and Links section of this message to see the status of your parish. --Any changes in Council delegates or alternates must be reported promptly to Lynn Robertson.

● On the sixth anniversary of the earthquake that devastated Haiti, Episcopal Church Presiding Bishop and Primate Michael Curry issued a statement; read it here.
● The Society of St. Andrew has a variety of Lenten materials available. Read more. The Society reports that in 2015: 16.6 million pounds were gleaned from the fields; 11.6 pounds were shipped in the Potato and Produce Project; 28.2 million total pounds were collected and distributed; 84.6 million servings of fresh produce were provided; 4, 825 events were held; and 32,710 volunteers were engaged.
